Former Poison singer Bret Michaels to have heart surgery

2011-01-25 09:35:13 GMT+7 (ICT)

PHOENIX, ARIZONA (BNO NEWS) -- Bret Michaels, former lead singer of rock group Poison, will be having surgery to repair a hole in his heart, the USA Today reported Monday.

According to reports, Monday's surgery at St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona would permanently place a device in Michaels' heart to repair the hole that has caused several health issues.

The surgical team will reportedly insert a catherer into a vein in Michaels' groin and guide the closure device up to his heart. The procedure will help stop abnormal blood flow between the two chambers of the heart that develops blood clots and potentially, another stroke.

Michaels, 47, of Butler, Pennsylvania, has been experiencing several health problems since last April, and in May 2010, a patent foramen ovale, a hole in his heart, was found after diagnostic tests were conducted.
