PESHAWAR, PAKISTAN (BNO NEWS) -- A bomb planted on a passenger bus on Wednesday killed nine people in northwest Pakistan, Geo News Television reported.

The explosion took place at the Tela Band area in Peshawar. The explosive device planted on the passenger bus killed nine people and injured at least 15 others.

Among the fatal victims there were three children and one woman, according to Abdul Hamid Afridi, director of Peshawar's Lady Reading Hospital.

The explosion occurred as the bus was passing by a market. Another vehicle was destroyed by the blast. In addition, many shops were badly damaged.

Peshawar police have cordoned off the area in Badhbeer locality. Dozens of local residents assisted paramedics and police officers with the rescue efforts.

On Saturday, a suicide bomber detonated his explosive-laden truck in Kohat tunnel, which connects the northwestern cities of Peshawar and Kohat.

Minutes later, an oil tanker outside the tunnel caught fire and exploded, damaging several vehicles. The Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan took responsibility for both attacks.
