Phuket Nipple Alert: Staying Abreast Of Nude On Our Beaches

The majority of comments above show about the same amount of ignorance, when it comes to Thai mores, as the "boobies.

This is NOT your country or a European country. Before you came here you should have done your homework and read up on what is expected of visitors. And using the small percentage of Thais who are in the sex trade is not good form when arguing a point.

As an expat of 6+ years, I find myself ashamed of the way farangs dress, both on the beach and on the streets. Someone should also say something to the hairy men who insist on wearing underwear shirts in public, such as at the mall and in theatres.

All of us should remember our manners while in this great (with exceptions) country.

People come here for a holiday and most enjoy it here, beaches in europe are signed as to what is allowed, sounds to me you have gone Thai, things are wrong when it suits , get a life

What happen to her? I have recently joined thaivisa forum so I am not updated. Can you please tell me about it? It sounds upsetting!

Maybe if the young Thai woman who dam_n near got beat to death selling fruit on the Phuket beach would just take her shirt off next time, perhaps the police would then take notice of all the crime?!

I think you must have only just arrived in Thailand? Only a small percentage of Thais are involved in sex-related commerce. Ha ha ha! Believe me there are more involved in it than you know, in some way or another.

..... and the lady went back to her stall to sell the porn dvd's i bet.

Some things you just couldnt make up in Thailand, how is it so acceptable to sell SEX and SEX DVD's but showing a bit of flesh on the beach or surrounding area is frowned upon. Is it one rule for Farangs and obne rule for locals here ?

What a broad-sweeping generality. If you broadened your horizons beyond sex you'd realize that only a small percentage of Thais are involved in sex-related commerce and most are indeed offended by public nudity. It is their country and culture you know.

I just couldn't agree more! This issue really gets my goat. I see them all the time and what's worse is one regular offender LIVES here and goes topless at the beach in front of her nanny!!!! The audacity of this woman to be soooooo disrespectful is just mind-boggling. At least I tell myself that the tourists are just dumb, after all, we all know by now they leave their brains behind when they come on holiday heresorry.gif.....some are just pain rude and don't care, but I dare-say most are just plain ignorant *sigh*.

Does anyone have any more creative ideas about how to deal with this? I was recently faced with 5 topless women whilst trying to have lunch with my husband...a little distracting as you don't have to live here long for modesty to become your mantra and so whereas a set of boobs a few years ago may not have raised an eyebrow, it certainly raises more than that now! Mostly my blood-pressure!angry.gif

Your blood pressure goes up when you see tits, you need help, psychiatric.

Nope, but you clearly do though if you think it's considerate of people to run around topless in a country where it's more than culturally insensitive to do so!

And I have officially banned that word 'culture' from being said in my home. Hate it how they bring out the culture card on us farangs every 5 mins to get what they want.

Why do you find the human body so offensive? Boobs are natural. It's your attitude that's unnatural. Why should you be the judge of what other people do?

my thoughts exactly. I also love the posts from the newbies, people just having moved here that are ultraprotective of all things Thai (yet to discover the great hypocrisy)....reminds me of my first year here ahhhh the memories :jap:

I thought we western civilized people are taught to respect another religion and another culture??? At least where I come from. So the tourists who don't care about the feelings of the locals are no more than stupid Baboons who deserve more than only one night in jail.

O.k. I like to look at nice breasts too, but not on behalf of offending the guest country where I stay at that moment.

I also despise the brainless macho's who walk half naked in the streets of many cities here in Thailand to show off their tattoo's. Except for a few crazy bastards they never would walk like that in their home country. The lower the civilized level the more they think they can perform here as an independent farang. Trash and tramps, that's the image they give from themselves.

Judgemental much? Most Thais don't really have a problem with this as MANY times guests in my previous resorts would go topless around the pool and the staff would pay ABSOLUTELY no attention other than to giggle a little bit but NONE were offended to the point that it ruined their whole day. Most understand that we also have our own culture and it's no big deal. Thai people don't need you to protect them. That being said it is a bit ridiculous for people to walk around in the mall, stores with no shirts on but it's not going to get "my blood boiling" lol and yeah Thais don't have tattoos do they?:P

...... So why dont you just go to Florida or California or do your time in France? Plenty of nude beaches there. Most of the ladies showing them should be jailed or brought to

a surgery clinic. Most of the more attractice girls dont show their tits anyway. btw. EVERY country has its Laws and we have to respect them or bugger off. .....

Another good reply, thank you.

maapaa

They should probably not be allowed to vote either eh?

You need to read my previous response to this....AND you're clearly saying that respecting someone else's culture means that you've not been here long and aren't aware of the hypocrisies? Says it all here - and will now make an assumption you're one of those lovely Farang men who haven't see their 'equipment' for the last 20 yrs due to the gorgeous beer gut they've been tending to so lovingly, who is in his 50s, been living here for the last 20 yrs on and off, and rides around on his scooter with his very petite and pre-pubescent looking girlfriend on the back..... hypocrisy exists in many forms and you display it by living in a country where you show disdain towards other's basic cultural norms. If I get as jaded as you clearly are, then it will indeed be time for me to depart wai.gif

True.

I have been a member here for some time and still people fail to see that they are not in their own country.

it is a simple rule.

Respect the rules, customs and traditions of your host.

Very simple but people find it difficult to understand.

It may upset some here but the sex trade that was introduced during Vietnam by the Americans, is on the decline and there are many of us that activly shut down the brothels clubs and pubs.

My only problem is with the aesthetics of the exposed bits. In general, the local talent beats the imports hands down. Maybe that is why there is a cultural taboo here, as a well presented local pair would draw attention, and possibly create traffic problems, whereas the imported version in general is not worth a second glance.

PHUKET: -- NIPPLE-wielding beach lovers take note: You could find yourself spending a night in jail instead of getting that all-body tan if you break the law.

Is this just ignorance or an honest mistake? But surely it is not a straight choice between getting a tan and spending a night in jail, since, last time I looked, the sun seems not to shine at night.

That's when they make the "Women in Chains" videos, then they sell the DVDs on the streets the following day. B)

Gee really, i didnt know that.

I didnt mean to tar everyone with the same brush but most Thais are hypacrits, i am married to a Thai by the way and have been for years so i think i am a pretty good judge and have lived in the country and city for most of that time (UK now). Most of the country elders frown upon this stuff and disagree with it but at the same time have daughters who sell sex, the elders then have no problems accepting the money they send back home.

I know its gone a bit off the original topic but sex and flashing/showing the body naked is along the same lines.

Well you did tar them all with the same brush. Just because your wife is a hypocrite dosen't mean all Thai's are. Mine is not.

In case you didn't know it and obviously you didn't they are two separate issues.

Your view of sex is clouded understandably so judging every thing in Thailand by it's sex capitol If they were one and the same how come we don't have it here in Chiang Mai. How come you don't have it in your front yard they are one in the same according to you.

Get a life in the UK and pretend to be a expert on the Thai culture because you have a hypocrite for a wife.

Can't go with you on that one unless you like petite busts. There are a lot of things I absolutely love about Thai women's physiques overall, but I do miss a lovely handful plus from back home. However, this is one body part and the average Thai lady is rocking it six ways from Sunday on the overall scale. I don't find many western women nearly as attractive as I used to anymore. But, I love big breasts.

Sorry,

But I am failing to see how this is news at all?

Maybe it is me. Most people know you shouldn't go topless over here, but in parts of Phuket where tourists are what bring the money in, exceptions should be made.

No one was arrested for being topless, no one was even talked to by the police. The only thing here is someone ran down the MAIN high street naked which is unacceptable in anyone's country.

So can someone tell me the point of this complete pointless article?

Or is it just normal Phuket Gazette Waffle?

"SEX SELLS"! Even if it's people complaining about exposed tits. I mean, what could be more offensive than the sight of a naked female body? :whistling:

boobs on the beach do not offend me. I am more offended by fat farang women in g-strings. :annoyed::annoyed::annoyed::annoyed::annoyed::annoyed:

Seriously though, I am with the mob that think we visitors should generally be more culturally sensitive, even if we perceive the Thais as sometimes having double standards in many aspects. :jap:

Do you really think that the daughters tell mom and dad that they are off to sell sex, you need a wake up call.

A scout comes to their village and tells the parents or parent or grandparent that they will be food and drink servers at a nice nightclub or restaurant and in many cases pay the family 1,000 baht and put the girls on a bus.

They find out later that if they want to be able to send baht home, they need to do the wild thing, most do as they have promised to send baht home, more often then not the family never knows or don't want to.

When they bring the buffalo home, they say they met on the beach or in the restaurant, seldom do they find out, some do and are ashamed, they are a proud people and your a bad judge.

Err, no. Sex trade was not introduced in Thailand by the Americans in the sixties. And if it is on decline, then please give your information source to that. And tell how you and other heroes (how many?) are shutting down brothels, clubs and pubs here. And where you do it. And as that would be classified as work, I take it you have work permits for it?

Pattaya-There is a "land mark" at Dontang Beach where a 70'ish year old lady sits along the beach everyday showing off her sagging aged breasts while smoking endlessly. I always wonder if she would do this in her own country in Europe? (but at her age- who cares)

Someone needs to do a little reading on the history of the sex trade in Thailand. It is mostly Thai on Thai and has been prevalent for centuries.

Only in Thailand where 50 years ago mature ladies often went bare breasted and 100 years ago when all women wore what was necessary based on heat and cold.

Now I must presume no one has heard of 'Burmese Bells' (or Siamese Bells) as were the fashion a few centuries ago...

Designated beach is definitely a good idea, but will be just like Mexico where all the local men sit on high points with binoculars...LOL

Every self-respecting beach should have a fair collection of breasts present! I find it very inconvenient to make my way into a gogo bar to watch some boobs. And they are all the same in those bars, no give me a beach full of breasts in all shapes and sizes. In Thailand or anywhere else for that matter.

thai double standards. Dont fully enforce nudity laws, but fully cover up smoking, drinking, and guns on tv. Go figure. We have similar laws in Hawaii, but Europeans disrespect the laws there too. The law enfarcement should book em, fine em 1000, euro, dollars BP, hold for 24 hrs :lock:, then transport to airport and send em home. Word would spread fast internationally.
