In May 2010, visa on arrival was introduced at Yangon andMandalay airports, at US$30 for 28 days (no extension possible). You need toshow the immigration officer the following:

A valid return ticket

2 Passport pictures size 4 cm x 6 cm (not older than 6months).

You might be asked to show that you have $US300 in cash(families $US600) and a reservation for a hotel or guesthouse which has a hotellicense. The visa on arrival is now quite complicated. You have to explain yourtravelling plans and the places where you stay. The best way is to arrange yourvisa at the Myanmar embassy in Bangkok. You can get it in one day. Only realproblem is that the immigration officers are very picky about the US dollarbills as they are required to be new and with no creases.

While ASEAN and PRC nationals may have had visa-free accessin the past, the Myanmar Embassy in Singapore declares that "allnationalities" must obtain visas before travel (9 April 2008). Someadditional restrictions, requirements or conditions may be applied toapplications - reports have included a need for a detailed itinerary, adetailed job history, etc. be prepared for some unusual questions (either onthe forms, or from the Consulate staff) when applying for your visa. Though notexplicitly stated, it has been reported that the authorities only allow onetrip to the country every 6 months.

The easiest way to get the visa is to apply through a travelagency in your home country. The form is simple and requires an ID photo ortwo. In Bangkok, it takes one or two business days. A standard application fora tourist visa requires: a completed visa form (available from the Embassy), acompleted arrival form (again, from the Embassy), a photocopy of the photo pagefrom your passport, two passport sized photos, the applicable fee (810 ThaiBaht - US$24 as at September 2009). In Hong Kong, you can get the visa the sameday afternoon if you submit the application by 11:00am (your passport, 3passport-size photos, business card / leave letter from your employer orstudent ID if you're a student and application fee of HK$150 - US$19).

Tourist visas are issued for a single entry, valid for onemonth from the date of issue (as of 3/3/10). The visa is good for a stay of upto four weeks (from date of entry), although you can overstay if you arewilling to pay a US$3 a day fee when you leave. Successful applicants will alsobe issued an "Arrival Form", which will be stapled into your passportand must be presented on arrival in Myanmar, along with your passportcontaining the visa sticker. Ensure that the visa sticker and arrival form haveboth been signed by the immigration officer before leaving the Embassy. Notethat you will still have to fill in the usual customs and immigration forms onyour flight into the country.
