A friend of mine just showed me his chest and leg covered in psoriasis. I had no idea it could affect people that badly, it looks really really painful. I want to get him sorted out asap, where is the best place for him to see a specialist please? Any advice / help appreciated.

Kind regards CM2

I have had the dreaded P for 20 years, unfortunately there is no cure. In UK it was down to steroid creams or UV lamps.

Usually it is hereditary, in the genes and something triggers it. All to do with the emune system of cooking body skin replacement.

I read lots and saw specialists telling me all sorts of stuff, don't eat this, don't eat that but l found that diet change for me did nothing. Stress, worry is a major cause of an out break for me. Unfortunately 10% of sufferers get it in the bone joints, called Psiratic Athritis which l have, so if your pal has any painful joints then that is possibly the cause.

A bought a UV lamp especially designed to bash the area with a certain part of the UV light which did work wonders for me. The lamp comes from Germany, if want name can let me know.

I was told to steer clear of shell fish but made no difference. P can disappear the same as it appeared, my dads cleared up in his seventies after 40 years.

SOAP, and washing powder. Big problem, try different soaps, big differences. If when shower good skin feels a bit sore try another soap. Strangely l have just found a Thai soap that is very good, no burning, can't remember what it was called but l must go buy some more soon so let you know.

Hope that some help, can PM or ask here any questions if l can help.

But stress is a biggy.

I treated and stopped my psoriasis with Selsun anti dandruff cream...the full strength variety.

Admittedly, the outbreak wasn't severe but by applying a generous amount of the cream to the affected area, leaving it for about 15 minutes before washing it off, was all it took. From memory, it required two or three applications.

My mother-in-law is currently using the same product to treat a large outbreak on her body, so far with positive results.

I have had it for over 20 yrs and done everything from taking steroids, to UV lamps, creams etc. It was about 70% gone and i could not get all 100% cleared up. Then i got Psoriatic Arthritis... to cut to the chase, i ended up getting Thai massage in San Francisco, from a falang trained here in CM. I was getting treated by him for fibromyalgia and when we discussed the course of treatment, he said that one possible side effect MIGHT be relief from psoriasis. Well, i now live in CM and he cured me of my fibromyalgia and my psoriasis is about 95% gone... just a few minor spots on knees and elbows.

So... don't rule out getting good thai massage as a way to straighten out the nerve endings.. which end at the skin.

check out www.psoriasis-association.org.uk a very useful sight.

I have been a sufferer for 25 years, though apart from one really bad attack just after i turned 50, mine is pretty mild up against some peoples.

what works for some may not for others.

i have had u.v. treatment, tried all the various creams, betnovate, donovex etc. which seem to keep the problem at bay but it never actualy goes away.

swimming in the sea and some sunshine works for me. not practical in chiang mai though.

i hope you find the treatment that works for you.

good luck,

I suffer with psoriasis and tried all sorts of treatments in the UK...once I was in Thailand I found it eased up mostly because of the soft water and the UV from the sun and the change in diet. Eating the right foode and keeping a healthy life style will really help. This doesn't mean you have to live like a monk though, you can still have your weekend fill of beer.

I also found Clobetasol cream at Boots, it is also packaged as 'Boots Dermo Cream', it can be bought from over the counter. I now use it all the time and the psoriasis is completely under control. I now only have to use the cream from time to time when areas of psoriasis return.

A friend also recommended trying one of those Gara Rufa fish therapy places where the fish feed on your dead skin. I haven't tried it yet myself, but have read up on it and it seems to be highly recommended by experts.

Unfortunately as mentioned by previous posters psoriasis has no cure, but it can be kept under control. Good luck to your friend, I hope he can find a way to clear up the psoriasis soon :)

You can only control it, never totally eradicate the horrible disease. Fortunately I only have a mild case. I had given up on all remedies until recently I was sent, Celestone-M Cream, it works, but as I said, never eradicates just makes the redness go and leaves the skin smooth, I re-apply when it reappears. Also the BEST shampoo that really works is Polytar. Shampoo you can find it in most pharmacies here and crème was posted from <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:country-region w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Australia</st1:place></st1:country-region>. Recently on Pattaya TV was a medical interview with a doctor from BHP who specializes in this disease. But the key remedies are, lots of sun, salt water swims, worry and stress try to avoid. Relax, what does worry do to rectify the problem. I think there are quite a few things we can learn from Thai’s, jai yen yen, and <SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>sabai, sabai. <SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>I hope your mate improves. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p></FONT></SPAN></P>

I was hit with my first attack of P when I lived in Chiang Mai and it eventually covered most of my body. It was at first misdiagnosed. Finally I made it to Dr. Seri who used methotrexate (essentially a cancer drug) to battle its worst attack, then coal tar.

I eventually cleared, but it was brutal.

UV light is the best treatment. As well sunlight in reasonable doses can work.

In my case, it was heavy alcohol use that was the root cause. I have since stopped drinking completely and have entirely cleared except an occasional localized outbreak due to cold weather or stress.

Really, booze is real bad for psoriasis.

Psoriasis can be treated with hypnotherapy, NLP (neurolinguistic programming), bodywork, diet, and sea salt water baths, as well as emotional and mental stress release therapies. We are in the process of opening a specialized spa that offers all of the above services. pm for more details or check out My link. we are just getting started, so the website is still a mock up and our facilities are almost ready to open in early April.

that said we may be able to schedule a free consultation.

cheers

Does anyone have the telephone number of Dr Siri's private clinic on Moon Muang so my wife can make an appointment to xee him. I have heard many good reports about him. Many thanks

No appointment necessary. Just turn up at 16:30 and get your queue card. Come back at 18:00-18:30 and you're in.

His clinic is very busy and successful . People (seems like mostly girls, often with facial blemishes) sometimes have to stand on the sidewalk waiting to get in the door to his very small waiting room.

It's worth whatever hassle it takes, however.

Go and see Dr. Vicharporn at Chiangmai Ram. She is excellent in this field.

I only get it now and again, it is also quite mild. I use Dermovate cream... but if more severe this might not be appropriate. Literally a finger nail dab on infected area is all that's needed as it's powerful stuff and it you rub around the parts of the skin that are not effected it causes a temporary white patch.

Good luck.
