Petraeus, commander of the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), on Wednesday confirmed that coalition troops accidentally killed nine children in northeastern Afghanistan. Petraeus said the incident happened in the Darah-Ye Pech district of Kunar province after insurgents attacked FOB Lessing with rockets. Coalition forces returned fire with indirect and aerial fire, killing the nine children. "These deaths should have never happened and I will personally apologize to President Karzai when he returns from his trip to London this week," Petraeus said, adding that the incident will be investigated. -- © BNO News All rights reserved 2011-03-
