naka
Can someone please clarify the type of Non immigrant visa ( 90 day, single ) required for someone who later wants to obtain a retirement visa. This site states that an 'O' visa is for someone who has a Thai dependent/spouse. What about someone who is currently single/divorced ?. What paperwork is required for this 90 day, Single entry Non. Imm. Visa ?.
lopburi3
The "O" stands for "other" so it includes a number of situations. Marriage is only one of them. The requirements will vary somewhat by the Embassy/Consulate/Country where you apply so to be sure you should check with them.
dr_Pat_Pong
For retirement you need to be 50 years. It is still an O class visa whether for retirement or marriage. I don't understand what you mean by single / divorced.
naka
Dr. PP 'Single/Divorced' I mentioned this because information on this site (not the forum) states that an 'O' visa is a 'Dependent's visa'. I was asking if this would be the same category for someone who does not have local dependents, e.g. someone who is single or divorced. I also notice that there is another category on this site described as 'O' 'Other', strange that they should use the same terminology. I am indeed over 50 and have adequate local funds and will probably go to Penang or Kota Barhu for the initial 90 day visa as I am currently on a 90 day tourist visa and understand that I am not likely to be issued a retirement visa on the basis of a tourist visa. . Will I need to take bank statement, medical form to get this visa
dr_Pat_Pong
They use O for both classes of visa. Open a bank account in Thailand with a credit of 800,000 baht, and go to Immigration they can amend your tourist visa to save the trip out, and give you a one year extension. Just be careful, you talk of a 90 day tourist visa. It is only good for a 60 day stay, but is extendable for an additional 30 days. You need to get a letter from your bank evidencing your account. Banks in Thailand know what Immigration want in the letter.
naka
Thanks for the info Dr.PP, I was unaware that I could go directly from a 60+30 tourist visa to a retirement visa. I already have the required local bank account and funds so will pay a visit to immigration in the next few days.
dr_Pat_Pong
It'll be a nice Christmas present if they don't make you go get a new visa outside Thailand. Good luck. .
