Vice Chairman of House Committee on Environment encouraged public awareness of natural disaster warnings and evacuation exercises

Commenting on natural disasters, experienced by the 6 coastal provinces of the Andaman, Vice Chairman of the House Committee on Environment, Premsak Pieryura, pointed out that the comprehensive early warning system is the most important factor. This, he said, should have participation from local government with technical and financial support from the central government. Mr. Premsak also placed the public awareness on early warning and evacuation exercises as important issues, saying that they would help prevent or reduce loss of lives or property. Since December 26th 2004, some tsunami evacuation drills had been conducted in the Andaman provinces of Phuket, PhnagNga and Krabi such as on Patong beach, Ban Nam Kem in Phang-Nga and Krabi's Ban Bangsak. Krabi is also planning an evacuation drill at the popular Ao Nang beach this Thursday.

Krabi police conducted anti–terrorist drill to enhance officials' skills.

The Police force from the Krabi police command with related officials, relief and rescue personnel underwent an anti–terrorist exercise at the Krabi Airport last week.

The Provincial Police Commander Pol. Maj. General Sermphan Singthong said the drill aimed to review and enhance the related units' skills in dealing with emergencies situations so that the operation meets it highest efficiency. The drill followed a simulation situation of hostages, and explosive devices, and then the operation took place with an evaluation process.

3. Krabi spa is back in business ready to welcome tourists for this high season.

Organizing marketing training courses for around 30 spa operators on Krabi, the Tourism Authority of Thailand, Krabi Office chief Napasorn Khakai said the local spa outlook is promising as the services are getting popular among tourists. She pointed out that holiday makers are now more health enthusiasts and Krabi has the right nature to serve. She went on to say that Krabi is also home to herbal plants, ideal for the health and beauty industry. According to Khun Napasorn, there are currently around 30 high standard spa amenities in hotels which are well certified by the Ministry of Public Health. The training will help enhance their marketing skill competitiveness, she concluded.
