All the small shops that sell supplies are pretty much the same price wherever you go but i would send a Thai in to do the order and purchase. They are also the agent for CPAC & if you want to buy a lot of concrete you may be able to negotiate a cheaper price than buying direct from CPAC but at the very least it will be the same price. Steel prices go up & down according to supply & demand but are generally pretty much the same at the various shops. Architect and engineer plans should contain info on what size and grade is needed. When designing a build I prefere 16 mm to be used over 12 mm strong, as it makes less chance for steel supplier to cheat and workers to mix up. I chose to order all on island after shopping around, but had trucks come directly from (BKK) supplier to site, and local supplier provided unloading. The large semi trucks do not have crane. Only got tiling, sanitaryware etc at SangChai, but if they have the styles you want, then I recommend them too. They carry good stock levels, and are quite good on the 'western' concept of "refunds"! Yes, I would agree. Sang Chai are by far the biggest building merchant on Phuket island and I find their prices very competitive. On the topic of rebar steel quality then you will find each bar is colour coded with a dab of spray paint at the end. Usually red, green, or yellow. Make sure you ask your merchant what colour = what grade. The delivery guys are always on the look-out for an easy mark, delivery a low grade and charge the high grade price. Then they sell off the high grade to another buyer. I know cos when we were building and my wife buying materials, she often had drivers looking to sell off 'excess material'. I always chased them off, and made extra care to carefully count and check each length & quality of rebar we had delivered.. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

But we found cheaper at a specialist steel supplier. I've had no problem with Keehin for electrical supplies. But we found cheaper at a specialist steel supplier. agreed and they have most in stock, actually the only supplier in Phuket stocking all CPAC roof tiles and they have makers representatives present, like Modona, Razzland, Amercian Standard, CPAC. Knowledge is gold . Often they price Cotto 10 baht less a sqm to appear inexpensive steel rebars seems to be a product they supply just to cover it all, but large quantities can be found at lower price elsewhere Keehin is rather expensive, but sometimes the only one able to supply.
