FRESNO, CALIFORNIA (BNO NEWS) -- Two crew members of a U.S. Navy jet were killed after their aircraft crashed near a Naval base in central California, officials said Wednesday.

At around 12 p.m. local time, the F/A -18 Hornet aircraft crashed southwest of Fresno, California around half a mile from Naval Air Station Lemoore, a U.S. Navy official told the Los Angeles Times.

The all-weather fighter jet, which is also used as an attack aircraft, crashed on a grass field, but no ground injuries were reported.

The names of the two crew members are being withheld until family members are notified. The reason of the incident is still uncertain and under investigation.
