About 1,000 newly graduated teachers from 22 institutes won't receive a teachingprofession licence because their study programmes weren't up to the "Kurusapa" Teacher Council of Thailand's standard, council secretarygeneral Ongkorn Amornsirinant said yesterday.

Ongkorn reported that early this week 100,000 teachers had applied for new or renewed professional licences, which are required for the civilservice exams.

The council had officials from 10 nearby provinces help with the licenceissuing procedure so all applicants could get their licences in time for the exam application deadline on April 10. They were working at the rate of about 10,000 licences per day, he said.

However, 1,000 new graduates from 22 institutes could not get their licences because they had transferred their credits from the Advanced Vocational Certificate or the Certificate of Higher Education to study in the fiveyear teachertraining programme, he said.

Ongkorn said the council would discuss this issue to seek a solution on April 7 today.
