Reasonably priced hotels

Banmai Rd. Rimkok Muang.....is it in the town centre, near the night baazar?

As Tayto already pointed out: It isn't.

If you are looking for a reasonable priced hotel (450-500 Baht) near the night baazar, you might check the Diamond Hotel at the Paholyothin Road.

It is situated about 500 meters from the bazaar and the bus station (you go to the main road, where you see the signs of the (excellent) Italian Restaurant Da Vinci, take to the left, pass the Funny House of Klaus and Kitty, pass fifty meters further the expat-meeting-place Bo's Place of Erwin and Bo and thirty meters further you find the Diamond).

A rather new hotel, aircon, fridge, cable-tv and very quite.

Enjoy your stay in Chiang Rai :o

Do you happen to know the number for Diamond hotel?

Try 05375 2789 or 05375 2790.

At the moment there seem to be no tourists at all in Chiang Rai.

As every year the first three weeks of October are the lowest of all low seasons.

The town is completely empty.

The townscape is deprived of sweating foreigners with waterbottles in their hands.

And as many schools are closed also of motorbikes with two or three schoolkids on them (the one in front hanging towards one of the mirrors, squeezing a pimple, the one in the middle happily talking and driving and the one on the pillow having a conversation with her muu-tuu).

No schoolbusses and also not this permanent stream of cars through the mddle of town with mums and dads behind the wheel and just one little passenger.

The weather is perfect, the rains stopped and the sun is shining again.

A perfect moment to visit Chiang Rai Mr. Earlofwindermere!

The price probably can be negotiated down to 450 Baht. There is no elevator and the hotel has three floors.

Welcome to Chiang Rai! :o

Thanks Mr. Limbo

I actually visit Chiang Rai about once every 4 weeks. I was there this past week and saw the Diamond Hotel but forgot to get the number. I appreciate it - and yes - you are right. This time of year is a great time to visit the city. You're lucky to be living there (if you are).
