SIBI, PAKISTAN (BNO NEWS) -- At least sixteen people were killed on early Tuesday morning when a passenger bus was deliberately set on fire in southwestern Pakistan, local media reported.

The attack happened on early Tuesday morning after the bus had stopped along a highway near the city of Sibi, located in the country's Balochistan province. The bus was carrying dozens of people, among them many children, and was coming from the city of Peshawar.

Private TV channel Express News reported that at least 16 people were killed, including seven young children. An unknown number of other passengers were injured, many seriously.

Dawn Television reported that four armed men riding on motorcycles had surrounded the passenger bus when it stopped to park near a roadside hotel. Two of them entered the bus while they sprinkled the bus with petrol before putting it on fire.

"The death toll may go up as the condition of most of the injured is serious," a hospital source told Dawn News.

It was not immediately known who was behind the attack.
