News_Editor
Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood forms own party 2011-04-30 22:44:34 GMT+7 (ICT) CAIRO, EGYPT (BNO NEWS) -- Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood announced on Saturday its recently formed party will run for 45% to 50% of the parliament in the next elections scheduled for September. Ahram Online reported that the Muslim Brotherhood announced that Mohamed Morsy will be the president of their newly formed Freedom and Justice party. Morsi, who belongs to the reformist group of the movement, is an ex-parliamentarian and professor at the University of Zagazig's Faculty of engineering. The announcements came at a press conference after the group ended its two-day Shura Council meeting, the first one in 16 years. The group also confirmed that they do not plan to field a presidential candidate in the upcoming elections. The elections come after Hosni Mubarak, who led Egypt as president for three decades, stepped down after weeks of anti-government protests by crowds calling for greater democracy and respect of human rights. -- © BNO News All rights reserved 2011-04-
