The Disaster Management Center said 227 houses were partially damaged due to the floods that affected the Ratnapura District. It was also reported that four people were killed, including two from drowning. The Meteorological Department stated that although improvement was seen in the lower atmosphere affecting Sri Lanka compared to the last few weeks, occasional showers are also expected in other parts of the island. Thunder showers are likely to affect the South Eastern and Eastern Coastline of Sri Lanka. The department advised the public to take the necessary precautions from lightning which may occur during these thunder showers. Sri Lanka have been experiencing heavy showers for the past thee weeks. In early February, at least 14 people were killed and over 1 million affected by the flooding that inundated homes, roads, and agricultural lands. The flooding came less than one month after 43 people were killed and over 300,000 left homeless during January's floods. -- © BNO News All rights reserved 2011-05-
