News_Editor
Seven people burnt to death in eastern India 2011-05-01 02:48:11 GMT+7 (ICT) NEW DELHI, INDIA (BNO NEWS) -- At least seven people were burnt to death by a mob in India's eastern state of Orissa, Press Trust of India reported Saturday. A senior police official R K Sharma said seven people, including a woman, were charred beyond recognition in a stone crusher unit in Ganjam district. Firefighters from neighboring Aska and Hinjili rushed to the spot, but none of the victims could be saved. "We suspect that the assailants used diesel or petrol to set the room on fire with the victims trapped inside," R K Sharma said. Police are still investigating the incident. Locals have been clashing with the crusher unit owners over the last two months. They object to blasting in the area since it is polluting the environment. -- © BNO News All rights reserved 2011-05-
