grumpyoldman
So I'm in Ao Nang, it's about 7:40AM and in need of a cup of coffee to kick start the old synapses. Go to Starbucks, closed, they open at 8. I loiter out front for a moment as I'm hoping the staff will show pity and open a little early, but no. I get impatient and say "what the hell", McDonalds is open, they have coffee. Not only was the coffee a whole lot cheaper (44thb as compared to 90) but really, I think it's better than Starbucks! Not a regular of McD's as I think their food is poison, but their coffee is good. supaprik
hate to admit this but I totally agree, i have been a Starbucks devote for years and tried a macca's coffee last week as they were the only immediate option and it surely worked for me also.....strange what we find in the most unusual places sometimes isn't it? TheWalkingMan
Years ago McD's was voted as having the best coffee in The States. I remember reading an article about it. TheWalkingMan

katana
The last time I had a McDonald's coffee, it tasted so little of coffee that you could have been forgiven for thinking they made it by taking some boiling water and waving a coffee bean at it from a distance of 2 metres. harrry
My order of preference would be....Amazon (at the PTT stations (especially if they are in a location where they use bottled milk and not UHT milk. Then Mc Donalds McCafe. Everywhere else falls down on consistency. Maccas also have the advantage that you get get a slightly warmed chocolate muffin and add softserve to eat with it,,,,heaven. I agree with you, but would add Black Canyon to that list. McD is good, but, drinking coffee black, no sugar, I prefer Burger Kings coffee both in the States and here in Thailand. Bkk Paragon, Burger King, I got a coffee, sat down with some friends and thought, this tastes exactly like back home. I studied the pretty pictures on the cup and lo there it was printed "Burger King Coffee Imported from Washington, USA" A very nice surprise. taninthai
Sorry don't mean to upset any one its just I see a mew post added to krabi forum and when you check it out it is about people discussing which coffee they prefer this to me does not give me Amy info about krabi also since I really hate the mass commercialism in ao nang I'd rather there was not mcdonalds and starbucks around as I said in many posts ao nang is more like Europe than Thailand now with prices to match
Nawtier
Amazon coffee tastes like crap....bitter and burnt. Starbucks is better by a mile than Amazon. Black Canyon is a little more better than Amazon, but less so than SB. I have not tried Macca's yet, but have been told the same as others say, it is better than SB. Now I know if I move to Krabi and decide to start drinking coffee again I will go to McDonald's. Actually this is my first time on this board I live in Chiang Mai and have not been there yet. We were planing a trip earlier this year but April had other ideas. LOL I am considering starting a thread to get a idea of what Krabi has to offer for permanent residency. Might as well do that today then you can expand your knowledge of Krabi. You already know where to go for coffee.
