Explosions strike 2 Mexico City banks

MEXICO CITY (BNO NEWS) -- Two explosive devices were detonated in two banks early Monday morning in Mexico City, as local authorities found a third suspected device at another bank, officials said.

The first explosion occurred at around 2 a.m. local time at a BBVA Bancomer bank in Mexico City's Pantitlan neighborhood in the delegation of Iztacalco, where an ATM machine was damaged, as well as windows and doorways.

Only 20 minutes after the incident, a second explosion occurred at a Santander bank on Tlalpan avenue in the Zacahuitzco neighborhood, Benito Juarez delegation. Damaged windows and ceilings were also seen after the blast.

As local authorities arrived at the scene and began investigations, a third explosive device was found at around 3:15 a.m. at a different Santander bank about one kilometer (less than a mile) from the scene of the second explosion and also on Tlalpan avenue. Members of a special Task Force team were able to secure the device and take it for further analysis.

Attorney General of Mexico City Miguel Angel Mancera Espinosa said no casualties or injured were reported. Initial investigations indicated the explosive devices were homemade, Mancera Espinosa said, adding that 'young vandals' were probably behind the explosions.
