DHAKA, BANGLADESH (BNO NEWS) -- A Bangladeshi woman chopped off a man's penis after he allegedly tried to rape her and then took it to a police station as evidence, local media reported Tuesday.

Monju Begum, 40, of Mirzapur, Bangladesh, was allegedly attacked by Mozammel Haq Mazi who tried to rape her after breaking into her residence, the Daily Bhaskar reported, but Mazi has refused the rape charges, arguing that they had been having an affair.

According to Mazi's account, he had been having an affair with Begum, who is also his neighbor, but when he refused to settle down with her in the Bangladeshi capital city of Dhaka, she 'took revenge' on him. Mazi supposedly told the woman he would not abandon his wife and children.

Begum, a mother of three, then chopped off Mazi's penis and took it to the police station wrapped up in a polythene bag as evidence against him in her rape allegations.

Surgeons tried to reattach the penis to Mazi's body, but doctors were unable to do so because several hours had passed before it was taken to the hospital. Mazi is currently hospitalized and is likely to be arrested upon his release.
