JAKARTA (BNO NEWS) -- Indonesian police on Thursday arrested 170 foreigners living in the country for alleged involvement in an Internet-based scamming activity, the Jakarta Post reported.

Police carried out the multiple arrests in three residential places in Serpong, Bekasi and North Jakarta, where dozens of personal computers and cellular phones were confiscated. Seventy-three of the foreigners are of Chinese nationality and 97 Taiwanese.

"From the total 170, 120 are male," National Police spokesperson Sr. Comr. Boy Rafli Amar said, adding that the foreigners were a part of a syndicate with operating headquarters in several countries, including Indonesia.

Boy said they were cooperating with the Indonesian immigration office and added that the arrests were executed on a lead provided by the Chinese National Police.
