Roadside bomb kills four in southern Afghanistan

2011-06-17 02:01:29 GMT+7 (ICT)

KANDAHAR, AFGHANISTAN (BNO NEWS) -- Four people of the same family were killed on Wednesday evening when a roadside bomb exploded in the southern region of Afghanistan, officials said on Thursday.

Three women and one man who were riding a tractor-trolley in the Ishaqzai area of the Maroof district in Kandahar province were killed when they were struck by the roadside bomb on late Wednesday night, Brigadier General Abdul Raziq told Pajhwok Afghan News.

In addition to the four fatal victims, another two men and a woman suffered injuries as a result of fragments thrown from the home-made bomb, which Raziq attributed to terrorist activity by members of the Taliban.

Last week, at least 15 people were killed in a similar incident involving a roadside bomb in the Arghandab district when a group of people traveled to the Khakrez district to visit the shrine of a saint.
