News_Editor Posted June 17, 2011 Share Posted June 17, 2011 Coal mine accident in northern China kills six 2011-06-17 13:20:40 GMT+7 (ICT) HOHHOT, CHINA (BNO NEWS) -- Six people were killed on early Friday morning when a vehicle overturned at a mine in northern China, state-run media reported. Several others were injured. The state-run Xinhua news agency said in a brief dispatch that the accident happened at the Wusigedu coal mine in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, which is located in northern China. It happened on early Friday morning. According to the report, a mine tram carrying fourteen miners crashed underground while turning, killing six people and injuring eight others. Their conditions were not immediately known. Xinhua said the mine is owned by the Northern United Power Company of China Huangneng Group. Safety conditions at mines in China have significantly improved in recent years, but they remain among the world's most dangerous with around 2,600 fatalities in 2009 alone.
