Borapet (Tinospora crispa or menispermacaea), is a diabetes remedy, reducing blood sugar, a digestive aid which reduces flatulence and indigestion while promoting appetite, a tonic to nurture the blood, and an aid in reducing fever. It is reputed to increase power and prolong life

Bung Boraphet

Bung/beung  = marsh; swamp

This is depending on the water level, it can be a small sized lake, or a large sized swamp, occupying a vast area of approximately 140,000 rai. It is the largest aquaculture source of fresh water fish in Thailand. There is a museum and aquarium with many species of fresh water fish. Travel to Bung Boraphet may be arranged by car, a trip of about 9 kms. on Nakhon Sawan - Chum Saeng Road, while a boat from the landing behind the City Market takes about half an hour.

Bung Boraphet, or Boraphet Lake, in Nakhon Sawan, claims over 44 species of marine plant life, 162 species of bird, and numerous other wild life. It teams with marine life; fish, insects and plants, making it a great source of food for the flocks of animals and birds, many of which migrate from the cold climate of the north to the lake each winter. This has created a natural ecological cycle for Bung Boraphet.
The Wildlife Conservation Divition of the Royal Forest Department declared the area a National Park to protect and conserve wildlife in and around the lake from hunters. Some areas have been designated educational areas for the purpose of nature study at first hand. This aims to instill students and youth with a love of nature as a measure to conserve the environment.
Throught the year, Bung Boraphet abounds with animal life, both local and migrants, especially at the beginning of winter in October through March. Birds migrate to the lake in numbers. Teals make an impressive sight as they float serenely on the water surface and then suddwnly take off together into air.
In addition to teals, one will notice various local birds such as the gallinule, the water cock and the jocana, as they carry out their everyday business of hunting for food.
And it was here at Bung Boraphet that a new species of bird was discovered, bringing the name of Thailand to every bird watchers lips. The rare Princess Sirindhorn bird, or Pseudochelidon hirundinidae can only be found at this lake. It is in the same family as the swallow.

This temple is one of the most famous temples in Northern Thailand. Large lions guard the main entrance gate that faces the Kuang River to the east. A reclining Buddha image fills a small building nearby.
