Jai Dee
PRIME MINISTER WANTS BKK GOVERNOR TO LOOK AT WHOLE TRANSPORTATION FRAMEWORK IN BKK Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra has advised Bangkok Governor Apirak Kosayothi to look a Bangkok as a whole. PM Thaksin was referring the 2.2 km extension route for the BTS electric train system. Mr. Thaksin spoke on the case where Bangkok Governor Aphirak Kosayothin(อภิรักษ์ โกษะโยธิน) will proceed with 2.2 kilometer extension from Taksin (ตากสิน) Station to Taksin intersection, using the budget from the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration. Mr. Thaksin said the Bangkok Governor may not understand issues on placing the framework for the whole mass transit system, as short-term construction may not be worth the cost. The prime minister said consideration had to be made whether a burden would fall on the public over the proceeding, while convenience should not be the only focus. Thus, the prime minister had asked Transport Minister Phongsak Raktaphongphaisarn (พงษ์ศักดิ์ รักตพงศ์ไพศาล) to call a meeting of the committee overlooking the restructuring of the transportation framework restructuring, and has also invite Mr. Aphirak to attend. Mr. Thaksin said he understood well Mr. Aphiraks intention of solving the traffic problem in Bangkok, but consideration had to be made with regards to the whole image. He also insisted this was not related to politics. Source: thaisnews.com ประจำวันศุกร์ที่ 21 ตุลาคม 2548

The civil works is the major cost, systems works can be completed relatively easily ( but probably not by October next year!!!!) and thus the BTS extension is usable...................however............that P word intervenes once again Should re-name the Skytrain.............." Skywell" !!!! Edited October 21, 2005 by andyfletch
