harsh4
I see the news networks are already sucking up with words like Crushing Victory and distant second Anyway I sincerely hope my fears are proved wrong and she does a good job for Thailand and her people. But why do I get a bad feeling that wont be the case? Because you don't want to be naive to think that she is there to do a 'good job for thailand and her people'. She has been openly declared a 'clone' of her brother. so, the agenda of her brother will be her primary agenda. Does 'good job for thailand and her people' constitute part of that ? If it does then yes, she will do a good job.
rixalex
If she fails, well, there's always the next election to get rid of her. Providing the military doesn't intervene in the meantime. And providing that the Shinawatras haven't in the next four years installed all their friends and relatives is all the top positions of the bodies that help maintain free and fair democracy and allow us to have proper open elections, like the one just gone. arthsch
Congratulations Yingluck Shinawatra ! Congratulations Thailand ! Dear Sir, in my opinion it's a mistake for us foreigners and guests in Thailand, to make comments about the domestical politics. We have to accept everybody and we can just hope, that he/she doesn't take some stupid comments seriously. Beside the intern troubles Thailand make since more than 100 years a good and wise politic. We westerners could learn from them a lot.

lingyaiyai
NEW GOVERNMENT It's official - Yingluck the prime minister By The Nation The House on Friday cast a roll-call vote to install Yingluck Shinawatra as prime minister. Of 496 MPs present, Yingluck received 296 votes. The opposition abstained with 197 votes. Three votes were cast against the nomination. Of the 300 coalition votes, four abstained including Yingluck, the House speaker and his two deputies. Three Democrat MPs cast their disapproval were Watchara Phetthong, Boonyod Sukthinthai and Attaporn Ponlabutr. Yingluck is 44 years and one month old, breaking a world record as the youngest female ever elected the prime minister. -- The Nation 2011-08-05 Anyone want to correct the Nation AGAIN?? Something like,... youngest prime minister , and the first female prime minister in Thai history? Unlike the Nation, I am open to correction if I am incorrect. You are correct - here's the list of female prime ministers, their ages when elected and ultimate fate, that The Nation couldn't be bothered to research: Sylvie Kinigi, Burundi, 41, later became acting president Agathe Uwilingiyimana, Rwanda, 40, assassinated Benazir Bhutto, Pakistan, 35, assassinated Mari Kiviniemi, Finland, 41, voted out of office

smileydude
Good luck to Yingluck, and good luck to Thailand. Let's hope that this "fresh face", in spite of her ties to her brother, is able to do something good and positive for Thailand as a whole, and not just a few select. I say we give her a chance and see what she can do. If she fails, well, there's always the next election to get rid of her. Providing the military doesn't intervene in the meantime. I'm not a big fan of anything red or the ideology of burning property gets you elected in parliament but I have to concede that since Ms. Crab was elected by the majority we must give her a chance to prove her mettle. I'm sure she's going to have a fun time juggling those ministerial chairs among factions, a job I would not envy. I pray that the majority know what they're doing because if they're wrong everyone suffers. My bet is on the generals though.

talk2sam
Congrats, PM Yingluck! I wish you good luck! You must be one of the best looking PM in the world! If SHE is going to accomplish anything at all, SHE will have to prove that SHE is not listening to HIM! I do not think that will happen. Being pessimistic won't change the prospect of the new PM
YellowFeverCAD
While not my choice of party, or PM, I still congratulate Yingluck on achieveing the top position, a first for Thailand, and a further step towards gender equality. :jap: Such nonsense, gender equality? Would you mind listing for me even ONE issue related to gender equality (of which there are MANY in Thailand) that Yingluck championed in her election speeches? Also you seem to be forgetting the rather important issue that she would NOT in a million years be PM or even elected to anything if she was not handed the position by her brother. Why oh why do people continue to pretend this is anything other than a way for the "dear leader" to keep his hand in politics even if from afar. I am all for gender equality, REAL earned equality that one can respect, not being a puppet for one's brother. As many women's rights groups in Thailand have expressed disappointment with the new PMs lack of any opinion or direction on bridging the gender gap I am curious what you know or see that they don't

Colin Yai
Lets hope that Thailand's first female P.M does prove to be as destructive as Britain's first female PM. Of course you preferred the Labour Partys PM James Callaghan "Crisis what crisis?" and "the Winter of discontent" . theres one thing you can bet your balls on, Yingluck will not do 3 terms in office, she will struggle to do one!. As far as her looking pretty good for her age is concerned, i completely agree. She does. As far as describing her as being "hot" is concerned, for one, it's a matter of taste of course, but for me, no she isn't - perhaps were i in my 50s or 60s she might be doing it; for two, is it not a bit of a shame to be discussing her sexiness or lack thereof, when she has just become leader of the country? Are there not other more important characteristics about her that we might discuss, that might actually have some bearing on the job she has to do? Seems not... A great place to live and if the Party gets there policy right then a place with much less poverty and suffering. Well down lady - GO FOR IT - you won it - you have the trust of the majority of people in this nation. CONGRATULATIONS

smileydude
Frank Oz brought us characters such as Kermit and Miss Piggy who became household names worldwide. Frank was a master puppeteer. I fear that his ability as a puppetteer will be eclipsed by Thaksin and his new puppet. Looking forward to seeing the Thaippets at a parliament near you. Thaippets or Thakpets you oughta trademark that name! Might come in handy when they want to make a movie out of it.
