Farang Ghetto Pricing

Recommended Posts

hel_l, most people would love to live on Sukhumvit.

You can take the man outta Sukhumvit, but you can't take the Sukhumvit out of the man!

I would've bought my condo on sukhumvit if I could've afforded it!

I was down on Sukhumvit yesterday and saw the new building going on.  I also looked at yesterday's BKK post and saw the sale prices and the rental rates there.  We are being ripped off particularly in the white ghetto area!!!! Thais don't pay what we do--nowhere near it.  They are taking us for suckers.  I live in a nice furnished apartment in the Chatujak area.  2 bedrooms and a living and dining room with one bath and a small kitchen and a balcony.  I pay 7000bht per month.  Why should things cost so much more in the area that they think all farangs want to live in.  I know---location, location, location.  Don't be sucked in!! If people refused to pay these inflated prices, they would come down fast.

Billy

Hi,

We're looking for a condo at the mo and have considered Chatujak as a possibility. Can you tell me more specifically where you live as this sounds perfect. A road or building name would be great.

Thanks!

Jez

Try the Paholyothin Road area near Ratchada--Rathayothin, in the neighborhood of the Major Ratchayothin Movie complex. There are plenty of apartments and good Condos in the area off Soi 33 to 39.

Billy

I live in the Jatujak area too. With the subway and BTS close by, it is easy to get to the centre of town. The area is far enough out of town that you don't get all the tourist hassles. There are also a few farangs living here so it doesn't feel like you are living out in the sticks.

There are plenty of decent apartments/condos around the lower end of Ladprao. Try Vipawadee Mansion on Ladprao soi 8. It's about 5 minutes walk from Pahonyothin subway station. The rooms in there are in the 8,000 - 10,000 baht range.

Easy answer, don't live in white ghetto's. I  live a 25bt 15 min ride from Victory monument and pay 1800bt a month for a large studio in Muang thong. Depends on your needs but if you don't like paying for it just move

We have a place in the same area. Don't spend alot of time there unless we've got business in Bkk, but I feel alot less crowded there. There's great food nearby, and I've yet to have the local shops and vendors add in a "farung tax" on anything. Lots of people sitting outside the buildings in the evenings chatting, drinking, and socialising. All said its a good atmosphere.

Like Toast says, 25bt minibus, hop the BTS and you're in the city in no time. 150-180bt taxi to the airport.

For far less than a place on Sukh. we get a place there, and one in CM.

Besides, if I want to live amongst a bunch of cynical white guys paying outragous rents to their asian landlords I'd have stayed around Vancouver. :o

Got to agree with Billy.

My beautiful house was 6Kb/month and close to MohChit stn (just a bit north)

Electric was paid direct to the company.

I met my landlord in a pet shop........ best deal I ever did.

100bt (maximum) taxi ride home from soi 33 pubs, and b4 I used to live in a Soi 26 condo @ 17,000bt/pm, never missed it once. :D

So, have a long walk along Pahon Yothin Rd from the multiplex Cinema going north towards the DM airport.

PS. anyone who uses words like "Dude" and "cool" can never be taken seriously :o

How much is the rent for one of those corrugated metal lean-to's along the railroad tracks near Phiyathai?  Looks like an easy stroll into BTS and a great way to learn some of the language.  Don't need a TV, a frig, and can wash at work.

:o

kenk3z

I can dig that, dude. I think Toastwars lives in one of those

OK dude, let me get this straight, you lived out in the sticks in your 6K/mo palace and commuted to your soi 33 pubs and your 6K/night bar tabs. Now that makes one whole hel_l of a lotta sense, Jackson.

the dudester digs that hes the duke of decades old dialogue.

he should get out more

he should splitsville to sukhumvit , sidewalk cities , hophead hoovervilles , listerine loonies , waggling wineheads and jake legged juicers made mad by m-loy haasip ,

big boner bavarians banging boygirl bitches ,

dig the miami hotel , lice laced linoleum lobby , ponytailed pensioners sucking short dog singha , cheap charlie checkos and rhinestone russians jostle for jam in the jungle jihad. devious doxies do the dance of deception. its an ooze of cooze down sukhumvit road.

(with apologies to james ellroy.)

The Dude keeps a separate shovel handy for everything he digs about Sukhumvit:

1. The Sidewalk That Never Sleeps

2. The Neverending Influx of New Tourists to Hang With

3. English Is a First Language (dig 'em)

4. High Prices Keep Scum Levels to a Minimum (dig 'em dig 'em)

5. The Familiarity Factor

6. Great Folks encompassing the Radius

7. Foodland Tops and 7/11s

8. Great Grace Hotel Pita Bread

9. The Nana Hotel Parking Lot @ 2 AM

10. Sukhumvit Soi Doggies

11. Subway and Sky Train Transportation to All Points in Great BKK

12. Ex Pats Around Tend Not to Be Non Diggable Poverty Packers

Negative Aspects: Traffic (who cares cause no need to motor anywhere, only walk or mass transit)

Lady Boy Rippers; just keep them at a distance. not a major problem

Touts; ignore them, again not a major prob

Price gougers; not a major problem, had 1 taxi in 3 years try and not turn on a meter

Miami Scum Hotel; nothing that a wrecking ball won't cure

I will be a righteous Dude and toss out 1 of my treasured shovels due to the above pitfalls. However I retain 11 shovels for massive digging of the positives. I go now to open a fresh box of Kellogg's Sugar Smacks for the sole purpose of digging all the reasons. Dig 'Em

Has anybody noticed that The Dude's prolific mentioning of "shovels" and "digging" has caused the "Ads by Google" up at the top there to display a link to advertising for shovels? :o
