McGarty
The g/f pronounces it Suwanapoom. It is in the Udon Thani area from what I understand. I have looked at google maps and at town and city names but cannot find it. Can someone please point me in the right direction?
bergen
Looks like the main international BKK airport Suvarnabhumi to me? Edited September 15, 2011 by bergen
thaimite
I believe the place you are referring to may be about 40 minutes outside of Udon Thani. I have been told there is a direct shuttle link from Ban Mak Kaen or near by Edited September 15, 2011 by thaimite
mikhill
I think you'll find this is Suwannaphum , an amphur in Roi Et province about 50 kilometres south from Roi Et city.
Bkkorupcountry
I think you'll find this is Suwannaphum , an amphur in Roi Et province about 50 kilometres south from Roi Et city. I think so too. I drive past it each time I'm on my way to Maha Chana Chai / Yasothon. I don't think there's much happening there though.
thrilled
Most thai's when they are saying it are talking about "BKK" airport. At least all the thai's that I talk to.
SantiSuk
There's certainly the airport and the one south of Roi Et. I don't doubt there are others throughout Thailand so there probably is one nearer to Udon also. Place names tend to repeat - I know of at least 5 Santisuks for instance (apart from my TV monicker). montrii
สุวรรณ (souwan) means "gold," one of the many Thai words for gold. ภูมิ (phum, or phumi) means, among other things, "land." So it's "land of gold." You'll find this name scattered around a lot, as a place name or as a surname. afarang
http://en.wikipedia....hoe_Suwannaphum Very good. I have the Thailand deluxe atlas(Bilingual),Published by Thinknet Company. I paid B550 for mine. You will find Suwannaphum on map page no. 21. On the left hand side of the page, near the top, you will see the number 6, . The Amphur is close by.This is an excellent Atlas. Highly recommended.
McGarty
Thanks for the replies. Definitely not Swampy airport. As her pronunciation is so bad I'll have to get a decent translation of where this place is. And a map is no use to her either LOL No complaints though it was worth a try. Maybe her accent or the 'slang' way some people talk that has stopped me from really understanding where her family home is.
BangRon
If she is saying Udon Thani area I would bet it is Suwannakhuha in Nong Bua Lamphu Province, typically ladies from Nong Bua Lamphu say they are from Udon Thani province, being Nong Bua Lamphu was established as a new Thai province in the mid 90s. Nice village areas, beautiful mountains, caves, buffalo eaters; Suwannakhuha claim to make the largest sticky rice balls in Thailand.
