webfact Posted September 21, 2011 Author Share Posted September 21, 2011 Supreme Commander Bids Farewell The supreme commander today bid farewell to his subordinates as he nears his retirement, which will take place at the end of this month. Supreme Commander General Songkitti Jaggabatara this morning visited the Army headquarters to bid farewell to the personnel stationed there, prior to his mandatory retirement on September 30. During his visit, he was welcomed by the Army Chief General Prayuth Chan-ocha and other high-ranking officers. The outgoing supreme commander inspected the Army's guard of honor before paying homage at the monument of King Rama V. He was then recognized for his achievements as supreme commander. Songkitti gave his last speech to Army personnel and delivered a farewell address on his retirement from military service. During his speech, Songkitti stated that Army personnel have served society in many capacities, while each military officer shares the same duty, which is to uphold the military's dignity as an institution the people can rely on. He said their discipline in their work demonstrates the unity and determination of all Army officers in serving the country. Songkitti stated that the Army's priority, under the leadership of Prayuth, will be loyalty to the monarchy, which comes before all else. He urged military personnel to perform their duties with strong determination. The general said he believes that every army officer will do their best to protect the country's dignity and develop its strength and will work as three armed forces under one supreme command, which is the best way of achieving safety for the country and ensuring its independence. Regarding the annual military reshuffle, Songkitti maintained that there has been no intervention and that the transfers are based on the individual's qualities and capabilities. Songkitti stated that the reshuffle proceedings, including the appointment of the new permanent secretary for the Defence Ministry, will be carried out without any problem. He said the Defence Council will present the sole nominee for the position of permanent secretary to the defence minister, who will then be in charge of forwarding the name to the prime minister for endorsement.
