BURIRAM WARNS SUGAR TRADERS TO STRICTLY COMPLY WITH THE PRICE CONTROL REGULATION

BURIRAM (บุรีรัมย์) Province has warned sugar traders of harsh fine and imprisonment if overpricing sugar as the product is under the price control list.

The warning follows tight supply of sugar to the market, causing some traders to raise prices beyond limits.

Governor of the Province YAI ROJSUWANITCHAKORN (ใหญ่ โรจน์สุวณิชกร) said the warning is to prevent profiteering and protect consumers. Under the price control regulation, traders are required to show prices of sugar which must not be higher than the limit. They are also prohibited from over-stocking or refusing to sell the sugar, or delaying the sale without proper reasons. Violators are subjected to imprisonment of up to 7 years or a fine of up to 140,000 baht, or both.

People can inform officials of violations through the Department of Internal Trade (DIT)’s hot line No. 1569.
