2012 academic year to open on may 23, one week behind schedule

The Education Ministry last week released the revised academic calendar for student admissions after the Ordinary National Educational Test (ONet) was postponed.

The ministry decided to open the first semester of the 2012 academic year one week later than usual, on May 23 instead of May 16.

The ONet for Prathom 6 (Grade 6) students will be postponed from February 15 to February 27. ONet for Matthayom 3 (Grade 9) students will be delayed from February 16 - 17 to February 28 - 29. Results of the test will be announced on April 28.

However, ONet for Matthayom 6 remains unchanged from February 18 - 19.

Minister Woravat Auapinyakul said he and Chinnapat Bhumirat, secretary general of the Basic Education Commission, had already approved the announcement of the calendar.

Kindergarten - applications from March 26, drawing of lots, results announcement and enrolment on March 11 and student acceptance on March 18.

Prathom 1 or Grade 1 - applications from March 9 - 13, drawing of lots, results announcement and enrolment on March 18 and student acceptance on March 25.

Matthayom 1 or Grade 7 (special talent category) - applications from April 30 to May 1, entrance exam, results announcement and enrolment on May 2 and student acceptance on May 12.

Matthayom 1 (competition category, in which students' ONet scores will count) - applications from April 30 to May 3, entrance exam on May 5, results announcement and enrolment on May 8 and student acceptance on May 12.

Matthayom 1 (drawing lots category) - applications from April 30 to May 3, drawing of lots, results announcement and enrolment on May 10 and student acceptance on May 12.

Matthayom 1 (special condition category) - applications from April 30 to May 3, results announcement and enrolment on May 10 and student acceptance on May 12.

Matthayom 4 or Grade 10 at schools teaching both lower and upper secondary students (category of students who graduated lower secondary level at the same schools where they prefer to study Matthayom 4) - enrolment on 11 and student acceptance on May 13.

Matthayom 4 (competition category, in which students' ONet scores will count for those who graduated lower secondary level from other schools) applications from April 30 to May 3, entrance exam on May 6, results announcement on May 9, enrolment on May 11 and student acceptance on May 13.

Matthayom 4 (special condition category), applications from April 30 to May 3, results announcement and enrolment on May 9 and student acceptance on May 13.

Matthayom 4 at schools teaching only upper secondary students (special talent category) - applications from March 15 - 19, entrance exam on March 24, results announcement on April 1, enrolment on April 7 and student acceptance on May 12.

At schools with special classrooms, applications for kindergarten and Prathom 1 from February 24 - 28, entrance exam on March 4, results announcement on March 10, enrolment on March 17 and student acceptance on March 25.

Matthayom 1 and Matthayom 4 - applications on March 19, entrance exam for Matthayom 1 on March 24, entrance exam for Matthayom 4 on March 25, results announcement on April 1, enrolment on April 7 and student acceptance on May 12.

Woravat said students who were unable to gain admission to any school should contact the nearest educational service area office on May 13 - 14 so the office could find schools with available openings for them. Results announcement on May 17 and enrolment on May 18.
