What Do Thailand's Historical Sites Really Offer As Tourist Attractions?

I have been on many tour-guided tours in Thailand over the past 20 odd years and every time people on every tour ask the same 2 questions and I have still not found a Thai tour guide who can answer either of the2 questions below .

Question 1. Why did Thailand change from Siam to Thailand?

Question 2. In which year did this take place?

I am sure there are plenty of you out there who can answer this!!

I don't know the year- think it was early 20th c., but the savviest version of the reason I've heard is related to legal concerns surrounding the international legal status of the territory and the risks posed by encroachment through other land ownership claims by surrounding colonial powers and their various pawns.
