Thaivisa Forum Releases Android App

Recommended Posts

I have noticed that when connected to WiFi, user's avatars are blank. When connected to 3g, they display normally. Wondering if this behavior is unique to me as well.

I don't have that problem and see avatars using both Wifi and 3g.

This app has permission to phone calls, exactly what is that used for?

"This application has access to the following:

  • Phone calls
    read phone state and identity
Allows the application to access the phone features of the device. An application with this permission can determine the phone number and serial number of this phone, whether a call is active, the number that call is connected to and the like."

Any answers?

Along with the no "like this" function on the mobile app as well as tapatalk it also appears as if the topic sub-title is not showing on the app either. Many posters like to open a topic and add vital information to the sub-title of the topic but this is not viewable on the mobile app or tapatalk.

If I am not mistaken, the Thaivisa app is Tapatalk branded for Thaivisa.

I just installed the app and have never used Tapatalk. Is this the same as Tapatalk? I've been thinking about Tapatalk but didnt want to spend the $3. The ThaiVisa app might be a good free demo of Tapatalk though.

If I didn't use this on a tab with no sim card and no telephony, that permission would be a deal breaker. Thumb down for that.

Which permission? The current version, which I believe is 2.0, says this about permissions:

Permissions

THIS APPLICATION HAS ACCESS TO THE FOLLOWING:

  • NETWORK COMMUNICATION
    FULL INTERNET ACCESS
Allows the app to create network sockets.
  • STORAGE
MODIFY/DELETE USB STORAGE CONTENTS MODIFY/DELETE SD CARD CONTENTS
Allows the app to write to the USB storage. Allows the app to write to the SD card.
  • SYSTEM TOOLS
PREVENT TABLET FROM SLEEPING PREVENT PHONE FROM SLEEPING
Allows the app to prevent the tablet from going to sleep. Allows the app to prevent the phone from going to sleep.

  • HARDWARE CONTROLS
    CONTROL VIBRATOR
Allows the app to control the vibrator.
  • NETWORK COMMUNICATION
    VIEW NETWORK STATE
Allows the app to view the state of all networks.
    VIEW WI-FI STATE
Allows the app to view the information about the state of Wi-Fi.
  • SYSTEM TOOLS
    AUTOMATICALLY START AT BOOT
Allows the app to have itself started as soon as the system has finished booting. This can make it take longer to start the tablet and allow the app to slow down the overall tablet by always running. Allows the app to have itself started as soon as the system has finished booting. The 2.0 version on the Google Play was last updated on May 18, 2012. It's what I've had on my tab since then. I still can't see a newer update, to which the comments were referred to.

The newest Tapatalk app does not have the http://developer.android.com/reference/android/Manifest.permission.html#READ_PHONE_STATE permission: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.quoord.tapatalkpro.activity

So if it is present in the newest Thaivisa app, it's been added by quoord, who apparently is the developer ? Reading IMEI and IMSI is not required for Android apps, there's another ID in the OS that can be used, without giving details of the phones or SIM cards serial number : http://developer.android.com/reference/android/provider/Settings.Secure.html#ANDROID_ID

Having IMEI and IMSI allows deciphering them ( http://www.numberingplans.com/?page=analysis ) and for operators, tracking the phone and sim card is possible.

I'm afraid that was too technical for me to understand, but then I also did not understand your

You were talking about a permission that would be a deal breaker and gave the ThaiVisa app the thumb down for that. What particular permission, among the permissions that the app is using (I quoted the full list), are you talking about?
