I hope the fascist prick takes Sunderland down to championship then the 1st then and on to the second.

Millibands families form of communism and nepotism is worse.

Millipede is a parasite to pay someone 150K a year for 15 days work, when he knows sweet FA about football and has no connection to the area other then being parachuted into a safe Labour seat makes a mockery of football.

I hope Villa and QPR go down so hopefully they'll stay up on goal difference.

Since when is nepotism worse than fascism?

Sorry i will change my statement that was quickly written. Nepotism of the Millipede brand is worse then some eccentric footballer putting his arm in the air, you are in Thailand surely you can see the divide and destruction of society that it causes. The Millipede form of communism has been responsible for more deaths and hardship then any other form of governance.

Millipede is an opportunist piece of communist scum who relied on Daddies commie connections all his life (see how he got into Oxford), the fact he is away from football is a bonus.

Di Canio is a football man, he was an idiot to do his salute as politics should be kept out of football.

Decanio is a self admitted fascist, and if you want to ignore a group that

fundamentally and VIOLENTLY opposes social interrogation fine, milliband didnt. Yep agreed

nepotism in thailand is not good for society as a whole, but the rest

of your post is absolutely wrong best you do some research b4 you open your gob.

What part of China you from?

the communist bit. confusing this isn't it?

The likes of Milliband know bugger all about socialism in capital form or otherwise.

Same goes for poverty....Di Canio probably does....so in that respect I'd vote for him.

Fascist Di Canio....?

When he gives interviews espousing such views I will believe it.

Totally agree with your comments regarding Milliband smokie, given his record as Foreign Secretary, ( Voting for an illegal war, complicit in the kidnapping of British citizens and rendering them for torture at the behest of the USA, and then lying about it). Some uncharitable people might regard this sort of thing as the actions of a fascist! Regarding Di Canio, i believe he is on record as saying that he is an admirer of Benito Mussolini, so i suppose at least we can expect the trains to start running on time in the Northeast!

Nothing has cchanged about what Di Canio believes in from the time when he played in the Premier League and managed Swindon.

Of course if PDC had joined West Ham it would have been all about his homecoming and not the media circus reacting to Milliband giving up a seat on the board. He's recently given up his MP seat in South Shields and he's off to work in New York anyway. No loss to Sunderland, nor the local community.

Not shocked by O'Neill's sacking, although a bit surprised by the timing, however, I believe the deal to get PDC was struck at least 2 weeks ago.

I am very surprised and excited by the appointment of Di Canio, but at the same time terrified. However, given our slide towards relegation there was a need for something drastic to be done, and I don't believe someone like Hughes or McClaren would have changed anything.

I think you play that black and white team soon. If you can win that with your injury problems, those fans that aren't happy will soon learn to love him,. But also expect him to fall out with players and get sent to the stands a lot. And if you score a late winner in front of the Gallowgate end, expect him to join in the celebrations with the players.

From the BBC:-

Paolo Di Canio: Sunderland defend management appointment

Sunderland say claims Paolo Di Canio has racist or fascist sympathies are insulting to both the "integrity of the club" and their new manager.

The Italian was appointed boss of the Premier League club on Sunday following the dismissal of Martin O'Neill.

Di Canio, 44, apologised for causing offence with statements of a political nature but said he had been misquoted. "It's been disappointing to read some of the reaction," said Sunderland chief executive Margaret Byrne.

Ex-foreign secretary David Miliband resigned from the board of Sunderland because of Di Canio's "past political statements" but Byrne said Di Canio's appointment had been turned into a "political circus".

"To accuse him now, as some have done, of being a racist or having fascist sympathies is insulting not only to him but to the integrity of this football club," added Byrne. "Anyone who has met Paolo and spoken with him personally, as we did in depth before making this appointment, will know that he is an honest man, a man of principle and a driven, determined and passionate individual.

"It is disappointing that some people are trying to turn the appointment of a head coach into a political circus."

In a statement released by the club, Di Canio said he was hurt by his portrayal in the media since becoming Sunderland manager."Of course it hurts because people try to take your dignity and that is not fair," said Di Canio. "I don't have a problem with anyone. I don't know why I have to keep repeating my story, to be defending myself on something that doesn't belong to me every time I change clubs."

Di Canio reportedly called fascist dictator Mussolini "a very principled ethical individual" who was "deeply misunderstood".

In 2005, he was pictured making a raised-arm salute to a group of supporters of Roman club Lazio, for whom he was a player.

"What I can say is that if someone is hurt, I am sorry," added Di Canio. "Talk about racism? That is absolutely stupid, stupid and ridiculous. I expressed an opinion in an interview many years ago. Some pieces were taken for media convenience. They took my expression in a very, very negative way. But it was a long conversation and a long interview. It was not fair."

"When I was in England my best friends were [black England players] Trevor Sinclair and Chris Powell, the Charlton manager - they can tell you everything about my character."

"I don't want to talk about politics because it's not my area. We are not in the Houses of Parliament, we are in a football club. I want to talk about sport. I want to talk about football."

Di Canio first came to Britain as a player in 1996 when he joined Celtic, and followed his time in Glasgow with spells at Sheffield Wednesday, West Ham and Charlton. He retired in 2008 after spells in Italy with Lazio and former Serie C1 side Cisco Roma, and was handed his first managerial role by Swindon in May 2011, replacing Paul Hart.

Di Canio spent 21 months at the County Ground. After securing promotion, and with Swindon in the League One play-off positions, he quit the Robins on 18 February after becoming frustrated by off-the-field issues.

Apology for what rij?

Their father was a socialist. It says nothing about these kids of his except that they attended very good universities.

David Milliband was already leaving to go to the US.

The whole story is bullshit. A victory of nonsense over reality. Di Canio is no more a radical fascist than I am.

Behave yourself.....the anti Scottish line in your statement marks you out as more bigoted than him!

I like Di Canio and football is a better, less sterile environment with characters like him in it...or do we all want 92 Nigel Adkins....????

This thread has got out of hand with some puerile posts.

HD is right - there are fewer and fewer characters in football and Di Canio will add value in that respect.

Two immediate images come to mind - the theatrical antics of the referee when Di Canio pushed Paul Alcock. Di Canio was out of order but the ref when down like sack of sh!t. The other showed a unique aspect of his character when he stopped play by catching the ball when Everton goalkeeper Paul Gerrard was injured.

Give the guy a chance to see what he can do.

Just because De Canio is a buffoon doesn't mean he won't be given a chance. But please don't think that an italien dwarf that runs across a football pitch doing fascist salutes should be taken seriously

I guess I'm not the only one who predicted this.

A new hired football manager has prompted a discussion about Fascists, socialists, posh communists, nepotism, China, and politics in general.

My only hope is that Sunderland drop.

I never forget the taunting after last match, last season.

Nevertheless, Di Canio will create memories.

They got it back in bucketloads on Saturday apparently!!! I've not seen a ground empty so fast...

Nice.

Anyway,

Bet their next home game will be at full capacity.

Good or bad, Di Canio has made sure the circus is in town.
