Tywais 12,109 #3 Posted December 4, 2005 (edited) I heard a rumbling sound about that time like a large lorry going by but don't have any roads with that kind of vehicle near me. I'm near Hang Dong. Edited December 4, 2005 by tywais
MYMA 0 #4 Posted December 4, 2005 We felt it too. We live off of Moon Muang. The whole house shook.
wpbr 0 #5 Posted December 4, 2005 Hmm. Must have been an earthquake then. Quite a bang preceeded the movement. Felt another smaller one at about 4.55pm too.
JXXXL 137 #6 Posted December 4, 2005 We felt it here in Hang Dong. It sure felt - and sounded - more like an explosion than a quake. I'm from California so I've felt a few quakes.
Foggy Bottom 41 #7 Posted December 4, 2005 Felt what appeared to be a strong tremor around quarter to 4, follwed by a very mild "aftershock" 8 minutes later Anyone else feel it? What's the link to that earthquake watch site? It didn't feel as if it was within Thailand (based on previous tremors I've felt here, but might have been in the Shan states. wimpy 154 #9 Posted December 4, 2005 It was a sharp short jolt here. Didn't feel like a California style quake to me.
chuchok 5 #10 Posted December 4, 2005 Felt like a large truck went by 2" away from my window.
sbk 2,058 #11 Posted December 4, 2005 The USGS has a site : Recent earthquakes but it hasn't been updated for this afternoon yet, I think, only lists two in AK
Maestro 4,146 #12 Posted December 4, 2005 What's the link to that earthquake watch site? Looks like the quake you felt was not strong enough (≥ 4) to make it onto the list. Anything on the local news yet?

Trapped in a high rise building, balancing to stay upright we watched other skyscrapers swaying. One minute through the quake, some people went to a website that already had the epicenter location and strenght. Thais should update their technology and procedures. cmsally 5,233 #15 Posted December 4, 2005 They felt it upstairs at our house but I was on ground level and didn't feel anything, that's pretty much the same with every earthquake. No "bang" here in central Chiang Mai.
