thaibebop
Are there Good Italian resturants in Thailand? If not, are there any?
PeaceBlondie
Chiang Mai, a huge tourist town, had at least five good sit-down Italian restaurants. Hua Hin, a small tourist town, has at least five, although their quality differs. In contrast to Mexican or Tex-Mex food, which doesn't appeal to Thais in spite of the chiles, or to many tourists, Italian food is popular. The beef lasagna is good; only once has it been too dry. Spaghetti bolonese is almost universally available, even at non-Italian restaurants. Finding passably good Italian food shouldn't be a problem unless all your grandparents were born in the Old Country.

BambinA
What kind of pizza? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> well i found the food reviews...maybe u get the idea Basilico | Italian | Rating: 7.5 Open Mon-Fri 11:30-14:40, Sat-Sun 11:30-15:30, Sun-Thu 18:00-23:30, Fri-Sat 18:00-24:00 Tel 0 2662 2323 8 Sukhumvit Soi 33, 100 m < Sukhumvit Rd, opposite Novotel Lotus Hotel Maybe it’s the computer in the monster-sized wood-fired oven. But from day one, the pizzas at Basilico have been attracting customers like bees to honey. In a city notoriously difficult for restaurants to establish themselves, this place has been playing to a full house since it opened. Proprietor Sergio has lots of experience making Neapolitan-style pizza, but the pizzas he dishes up at Basilico are tailor-made for the City of Angels. The crust is thinner and rolled out with a rolling pin, a definite no-no in Naples. In addition the combination of flours used has been modified to take into account Bangkok’s stifling humidity. The result is a crust that is light, chewy and appealing to Bangkok tastes. The toppings include all the traditional Neapolitan favourites, plus a few others that have gained international popularity. If you are like me and enjoy thin crust pizza, it is hard to beat Basilico. A personal favourite is the B240 Pizza Calabrese with tomato, mozzarella, spicy salami and olives. There are also several top-notch pasta dishes on the menu, including a smashing B350 Tagliatelle with truffle and porcini mushrooms in a cream sauce. The most striking feature of the restaurant is the large atrium that has been built on the front of the former residence housing the place. Light and airy, it contains the pizza oven and is filled with tables providing views of the action at the hostess bars on Soi 33. There is a room upstairs for private parties and another room downstairs for those seeking a more romantic setting. The computer in the oven is more than a gimmick. It allows excellent pizza to be made by a relatively inexperienced piazzioli. A wood-fired pizza oven is incredibly hot and the pizza cooks in about three minutes. The computer lets the pizza maker know when to remove the pizza, an important factor when there are several pizzas in the oven at the same time. The service at Basilico is good, but if you don’t speak Thai, it is best to double check that your order has been understood. Although many of the customers here are non-Thai and able to communicate in English, virtually none of the serving staff, including those who answer the phone, speak English. I have had a couple of problems with items not arriving and with the wrong dish appearing. In addition to excellent food, the fact Sergio is always at the restaurant contributes significantly to its success. Other restaurant owners should take notice. from where to eat in BKK site

COBBER
On Sukhumvit , just as you come down the stairs from Nana BTS, on the opposite side to Nana Plaza. Very good food . A little bit pricey. Not super expensive.
lomatopo
I agree that Angelini is great. There was a Pizza thread here, and Basilico got some ups and downs re: the food and the pizza. I think one post here references Pomodoro, and there seem to be other 'Pomodoro's'; in addition to the one mentioned here (near Soi Sukhumvit 5) There is one in the Emporium shopping center up on the "food floor" which is good too. sundevil
Duilio's on Sukhumvit 49 gets my vote. Great atmosphere and authentic food. They also have great lunch specials with salads, pastas, etc ranging from 89 Baht and up. A new location has just opened on Surawong Rd at the Tawana Ramada hotel lower level. davethailand
I ate in "Prego" in Chawaeng Koh Samui last night and it was excellent, highly recommended. (As opposed to "Rice" in Chaweang where we ate the night before which is certainly one of the worst restaurant experiences i've had in Thailand! Absolute rubbish and totally unprofessional.)
