[Myanmar] Thai Labor Shortage With Burma Rebirth

Some businesses in Thailand are feeling the pinch as the minimum wage hike and possible competition from a resurgent Burma threatens their market share. The fishery, construction and food industries will apparently be hardest hit as they all heavily rely on Burmese migrant workers. The food processing industry is already short around 30,000 workers, Visit Limprana, managing director of the Nguan Soon Group, told The Bangkok Post on Tuesday.  “I’d say all factories are facing a labor shortage. No matter how high wages rise, we have to pay them because of the shortage we are facing,†he said.
