Phuket Police seek help in identifying dead hospital patient

Phuket Gazette

PHUKET: Phuket -- Police are trying identify the body of a woman, thought to be from Myanmar, who died in the emergency ward of Thalang Hospital yesterday.

Thalang Police duty officer Patiwat Yodkhwan was notified of the woman’s death at 7:30am by staff at Thalang Hospital, who asked officers to assist in identifying the body.

The woman was alive when left at the hospital’s emergency ward earlier by persons unknown.

As she carried no identification, police suspect she may have been one of the thousands of illegal workers from Burma currently living and working on Phuket.

Undercover police were dispatched to question workers at different workers’ camps in Thalang, but as of late this morning no information had been uncovered to assist in identifying the woman.

The woman, who was probably in her twenties, was wearing a red-and-white striped polo shirt and a black sarong with a purple-and-white floral pattern. She had long, wavy black hair.

At last report hospital staff had yet to determine the cause of death. There were no signs of trauma apparent on the body, which will be held in the hospital morgue pending identification and collection by relatives.

Any people who believe they can help police identify the woman are urged to contact Thalang Police at 076-313919 or thalang@royalthaipolice.go.th
