aerialone
I will be in Tailand in early Jan thry mid Feb 2006. I hope to obtain some aerial images via small helicopter or airplane. Does anyone have any contacts with aircraft owners/pilots? Thanks in advance! Dan
penzman
At a home show in Phuket I saw a guy who had a remote controled helicopter with a camera mounted on it's belly. No way you can fit in it though.

aerialone
Kinda takes the fun out of it when you can't operate the camera, but I am sure it would be a lot easier and much less expensive.

aerialone
Yes... I have been inquiring with the Thai Flying Club and have used them in the past. Not sure the club will be able to fill my needs this time as I need a pilot to travel and I have not been getting response indicating interest from them. aerialone
Most of these are larger charter companies, but I sent emails to these companies so will see if they know of anyone with a small aircraft. I am hoping to find an individual with an aircraft, but they are quite scarce in Thailand compared to the US where there is an over abundance of them. Right now I can't think of additional contacts other than the ones already mentioned, but I do have a great interest in aerial photography, so I'm curious as to what type of aerials you'll be shooting. Since I don't get paid for my photos, I have to take most of my aerial photos from commercial flights (usually requires lots of Photoshop work afterwards!) or from mountain summits. Last year, I rented a small plane (with pilot) out of Lamphun airport to take photos of the Chiang Mai area, but since it was quite hazy that day, I spent most of my time aloft brushing up on my flying skills. Which reminds me, you might want to give those guys a call (Chiang Mai Flying Club, based in Lamphun: <cmflyingclub.com>). I paid a reasonable 3,000B for an hour (Hobb's time) in their Cessna 150. Their prices are probably higher now, in line with global oil prices, but I hope not by too much since I intend to rent with them again this rainy season (the rains tend to clear out all the gunk in the air, sometimes providing incredibly clear visibilities.) Note: These recent photos were taken 5,000+ ft above the Central Plains near Sukhothai... what do you think?
