Heavens above is this still rattling on?

How come the farmers can get together once every 3 months and the Ubon Hash can get its $hit together every month but we cannot seem, when in camel committee forum, to organise something once in a blue moon?

Dont look for perfection - there will always be critics whatever you do! Just find a venue for a whole day with beer and food in the middle of KK and let the attendees sort their own accomodation out based on a list of resorts and hotels with phone numbers. If nobody local can do that Ill drive up there one weekend and sort it out myself!

I pretty much stopped reading this thread a while back as figured there's no consensus on too many things and no one taking charge. However thought i'd post my views as perhaps inspiration for anyone who is really interested in getting this up and running.

To get this event up and running, it doesn't require a general consensus from all members. It just requires a consensus from those who are going to organise the details, and front the cost of organizing such an event.

So if someone does want to organise something, they could just post up a new thread with details on what they are proposing aswell as what assistance they would like etc. Others can then confirm a certain level of support in organising, or simply rsvp, based on the location/date/activities proposed.

Whatever details you then suggest, would either work, or not. Location, cost, date and activities would make a big difference to the numbers in attendance, as will simply how you promote it.

Anywho, good luck to anyone who decides to step up and organise anything :)

We asked you whether you are interested in an Isaan party and if so, whereabouts. 248 of you were interested in principle. 90 of you said Khon Kaen would be the place to do it.

We listened. We found a nice location near Khon Kaen, fixed a date and have what I believe a great package for our members.

Unfortunately, only 8 members (with partners 12 people in total) signed up so far and it is only about three weeks to go.

May I ask...and you can answer either here or by PM to me in confidentiality...what the problem is? And even more.....the possible solution? Wrong date? Wrong Place? Better date? Better Place?

We are happy to listen to you!

The location is too far from Khon Kaen, there is nothing to do there..Kranuan ....however look at Khon Kaen..lots of places to go..not confined to one single location

As stated above, wrong place, too far from Khon Kaen city. Not only that but I originally thought, what the hay, I'll go, so I went to the resort website, "filled out" the reservation and I have yet to receive a confirmation or email back from them. So much for "paying up front".

Well,

Doesn't look like people are interested in having an Essan Party. The last good party I can remember that Thai Visa through in Essan was in surin about 2.5 years ago. The one before that was the five year anniversary in Pattaya. I still think Korat would have been a better choice although it was not the majority when taking the votes.

Only 12 from KK signed up ? What a pathetic bunch - give Udon a try

Again, in my opinion it's the choice of the resort that is the problem. If no other suitable place could be found in KK city, then perhaps it would be wise to give Udon or Korat a try.thumbsup.gif By the way, I did not vote for KK, but I am guessing the people who did, are thinking along the same line as me...the resort is not a good location.

I would like to air my thoughts on the venue, especially as I originally suggested it.

I attended the party at Surin that was mentioned a couple of posts ago. it was held at Farang Connection Restaurant and there were about four tables of people who chatted quietly to each other, there was very little mingling and therefore no getting to know each other. After a couple of hours people made their way home or to their hotel and that was it. Both my wife and I thought "what a waste of time and effort travelling from Korat just to eat some food." Dont get me wrong we chatted with everybody on our table, (which if I remember rightly included Thai Visa George), but that was it.

Anyway, I spent last Xmas at Castle Howchow and I can vouch that it would be the ideal venue for such a gathering if enough people decided to get off their backsides and make the effort. The venue is huge with a fantastic swimming pool, Huge gardens and great restaurant and bar area. If you truly want to meet and socialise with other Thai Visa members then this is the way to do it. Meet at breakfast...share a morning coffee or a beer in the afternoon. You will have time to get to know people properly and actually have an enjoyable weekend at the same time.

I really cant understand why people are saying it is too far out of Khon Kaen......unless they are Khon Kaen residents who dont want to travel at all !!!

This party is supposed to cover the whole of Isaan so if you are travelling from afar anyway then whats another couple of K's. I live in Korat so it is all extra K's for me but I would rather do that than sit in some small restaurant somewhere and not enjoy the venue at all.

Having said all that I did raise the point on one of the other threads that there are no single rooms quoted for on the weekend rates. Up to now I have seen no further reference to that and as my wife cant make it, I will not be attending unless there is some single accomodation available.

SERIOUSLY GUYS look at the hotels web site....its perfect for a get together....go and enjoy it.

I live 70km south of Buriram, so for me it is not a few extra K's

I still don't know if I will be attending any of the TV parties, it's a timing thing nothing else, but if I do it will be either BKK or Patts, as the time to get to them would be about the same as KK, plus I'm not trapped in one venue.

The few extra K's was referring to being north of Khon Kaen, so wherever you are situated south of KK then its the same "few extra K's". And surely Bangkok and Pattaya are a darn sight more K's than KK anyway.......but if you feel that you would be "trapped" when socialising with other members then perhaps you didnt ought to put yourself in such a position, I agree, although I fail to see why you would want to meet members from a different section of the forum that you never converse with.

(ie: Bangkok and Pattaya)

Er, a bit of variety perhaps, and making the assumption that I don't converse with people outside of Isaan is just that, an assumption.

I have attended several TV gatherings over the last few years both close to home and further away, the further away ones in locations that are already known for partying were more enjoyable in my experience....... but that is just my experience.

Fair comments Thaddeus, each to his own.....but this is getting away from the point I was trying to make on behalf of Raro, that this venue will allow for a much better social gathering , for those that want to, than some small restaurant.

Someone has even suggested getting a group up to play golf at the nearby golf course during the day.

So many things to do so long as people open their minds to the benefits and how they can enjoy themselves.

I would have been keen as beans to go, even though it's around 150km from where I live, but unfortunately already had flights booked when it was announced.

I think it's a perfect venue for anyone who wants to travel from Isaan. As its reasonably central geographically, but also reasonably central to the farang populations of udon Khon Kaen and korat) Except that maybe some Farang in Isaan might find it quite expensive (I normally pay around 400-500THB a night for hotels, so 3000+ is quite expensive, or is that the 2-3 nights)I'd imagine a lot of others feel the same way), thus might be hesitant to commit to it unless they know it'll be really good.

Likewise I think a lot of Farang in Khon Kaen city probably voted for Khon Kaen because they wouldn't be willing to travel at all (maybe no car, and it is the rainy season), especially as they likely don't know the buses which go there etc. This might also be the case for Farang living in other parts of Isaan too.

Therefore, a suggestion on how to improve this:

Start a thread up offering car pooling from various areas. Or tell people to bus to Khon Kaen and then hire a van/bus to take them to the resort (could have a fee for this to recoup costs). Or do both.

Also maybe put up an estimate of costs, e.g. BYO or buy at how chow, if buying from howchow, roughly how much per drink. Likewise how much might any additional activities cost?

A list of activities and timetable could be a nice addition too, as going to the resort in the countryside for a few days just to relax with other TV members + drink on the Sat night, might no appeal to all with such large distances to cover. Instead organised plans to play golf, visit pretty temples or go bowling might be more appealing. Especially as then other members who live locally but maybe don't want to pay 4000THB a night might just come along for bowling or golf or something (this might be up already I dunno, I didn't read much further after I saw I'd be overseas for the party unfortunately).

But yeah, that's my 2c

I agree that it is bit more expensive that what we (Thai wife) would normally want to pay especially since we will have our kids traveling with us.

I think getting to the resort for the party from KK would not be a problem using public transport but getting back at a late hour would be impossible.
