Phuket police officer held for off-duty killing

Phuket Gazette

PHUKET: -- A Phuket police officer and his brother are being detained at Phuket Provincial Court tonight after both were charged with accessory to murder over a fatal shooting in Phuket Town’s red-light district early yesterday morning.

Phuket City Police Deputy Superintendent Jamroon Plaiduang told the Phuket Gazette that the shooting occurred at about 2:30am in Phuket Town’s infamous Phun Phol Soi 11.

Pol Cpl Rachaporn Semaksorn, currently serving at Patong Police Station, and his brother Dechaporn arrived in the narrow street, pulling up on the opposite side of the alley where 21-year-old Ekkasit Sangangam was sitting on his parked motorbike.

Mr Ekkasit walked over to Cpl Rachaporn and Dechaporn and began arguing with the both of them, said Col Jamroon.

Cpl Rachaporn, not in uniform and off-duty at the time, then apparently pulled out his gun and shot Mr Ekkasit in his left eye, then sped off on his motorbike.

“Cpl Rachaporn and his brother were arrested minutes later while riding along Wichit Songkram Road,” said Col Jamroon.

Rescue workers from the nearby Kusoldharm Foundation, whose headquarters is only one street away, , rushed Mr Ekkasit to Vachira Phuket Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

“Cpl Rachaporn and Dechaporn were held here at Phuket City Police Station after their arrest, but they have now been transferred to the holding cells at Phuket Provincial Court,” said Col Jamroon.

Both men have been charged with accessory to murder.

Police have yet to charge Cpl Rachaporn with the killing.

Col Jamroon told the Gazette late this afternoon that police had yet to confirm whether or not the shooting was over woman.

“There were no women involved in the incident when police arrived at the scene [early yesterday morning]. However, we are still continuing our investigation,” he said.

Is it legal for police officers off duty and not wearing uniform to carry their gun ???

I'm no expert but would say yes to your question Boss as I understand it the law says you can own a gun and still carry it with you but not in a public place.

What I mean is you may have the gun with you inside a vehicle or home but not shown in a public place.

Also the gun has to be registered in your name.

Going back to the story what an ass to think he can abuse the system of being a police officer and just shoot someone in cold blood.

What happened to the Thai culture of Buddhism where by all living creatures are to be respected and cared for?

To many time Thai policeman uses their gun, mostly in after duty hours in the wrong way, (Kanchanaburi shooting of Tourists)

or behaved false. (One chopping off a ladies arm with a sword)

Some stories in the past, as far as I can remember, some rotten eggs involved! I would say more than we are used to in Western Europe!whistling.gif

Real Buddhism hasn't existed in Thailand for decades, a set of moral values without a deity to enforce them is a fine thing to aspire to, I'm yet to see it happen anywhere in significant numbers.

(and I just broke a promise to a friend made five minutes ago, see how week we beasts are)
