Spaniel
I noticed in todays Bangkok Post that Air Asia is offering a pretty cheap flight to Rangoon (B1590 o/w) so my wife, son and I are interested in going there for a few days at the end of June. None of us have been there so I have the usual "dumb" questions. I have a US passport so I'm sure I need a visa but do Thai PP holders need one? Any recommendations for inexpensive (cheap) places to stay? Things to see, etc? Any helpful hints appreciated.
expatman
Myanmar is a member of ASEAN, so Thais do not need a visa for a short visit. Americans probably do need a visa, but I've heard it may now be possible to get this on arrival. I haven't been there in quite a while, but the main attractions in Yangon (Rangoon) are the Shwedagon Pagoda and the central market.
folium
Late June will be pretty humid and rainy (normally in the afternoon). Good news is that there will be far fewer tourists. Visas are now VOA, google it for full details. I would suggest getting out of Yangon and up to Bagan which is one of the highlights of SE Asia. Try and get hold of a travel agent in Myanmar for cheap accom. etc
Winston888
Due to the increased influx of tourists and the limited number of accomodation prices are no longer what it used to be, and the hotel rates are going through the roof ! If you want to go, make sure you have a room booked, either independently or through a travel agent.
