The outbreak occured after a recent severe flooding in many areas of the province, according to local officials. About 3,000 cattle have been reportedly infected with the disease so far. Local authorities are accelerating containing the spread of the disease with more funds to be allocated to the areas for procurement of medical supplies. --TNA 2006-01-

awarrumbungle
I'm ignorant - does the problem just stop with loss of livestock or does it effect humans too?
albert dickinson
What are the restrictions placed on cattle infected with Foot& mouth disease in Thailand Are they slaughtered for example?I remember a case a while back where 100 head died in Kalasin.Awell known MP reported they died of cold. This was after 4 had been kept for local consumption, and the rest had been released into the food chain. RamdomChances
As far as I'm aware they dont go into the wholesale killings that they seem to do in UK, The infected animals are killed and there is restricted movment of cattle out of infected areas. We vaccinate ours, but there seem to be outbreaks happening all the time here but it does not appere to be as big a deal as back in the UK
