Burma Looks To Build Second Airport In Rangoon

Burma is seeking investors to help it build a new airport to service its main commercial center. “The Ministry of Transport would like to cooperate with local and foreign investors for the development of Hanthawady International Airport,†said an announcement in state-run media on Thursday, referring to a proposed airport to be built on a disused airfield near Pegu, about 80 km from Rangoon, Burma’s largest city. The new airport would have the capacity to handle 10 million passengers a year, compared to 2.7 million who can now pass through Yangon International Airport.
