What Food Do You Miss The Most In Thailand And Crave?

Recommended Posts

After a good night out and belly full of beer a proper donner kebab is a must have, not non of that crap Turkish street wrap things

yeah...a proper english kebab is required in some circumstances; quite different from the turkish iskender kebap...but the turks don't normally wrap up the meat; in Bursa (the birthplace of the kebap) the meat is piled high on a plate with the bread on the side...and with no goddamed chili sauce...a total grease OD...

Jambalaya!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Make it yourself.

Have to make your own Cajun seasoning but shouldn't be an issue getting the stuff in BKK. I gave up on Samui so ordered a case of 'slap ya mama' from Louisiana.

http://slapyamama.com/

So I signed up with slap and wanted to order a 12oz box of the soup mix. $66 bucks to ship to Thailand. $166 to ship a gallon of the stuff. Holy Crap!

Said it wasn't cheap. Guess you will be counting down the days... hope you don't get stung by some spurious import duty. I got it shipped to the UK and picked it up from there.

black pudding

any battered fish shop product

We can get black pudding in Pattaya from Western Meat Company, I believe they ship all over Thailand

Could be the same as Tesco sell. A German style blood sausage which while not being the same (no barley) is good enough to stave off the craving.

Thanks for the black pudding suggestions but the numerous stuff I've sampled here over the years can't hold a candle to the even worst bp back home so I give it a miss. Same as when I was in Oz and fish and chips. I heard so many times that this was " The best fish and chips you'll ever taste." They must have been having a laugh.

These are what wander through my dreams

No the ones I mean are made by a British butcher in Pattaya.

I crave so much but based on my experience the two things I want right away upon landing if visiting the USA are a chile relleno burrito with guac and good salsa, and Vietnamese beef pho.

JT, you are truly a degenerate...a chile relleno burrito is nice to start but what about a cheeseburger?...vietnamese pho bo is OK fer breakfast...

(the vietnamese manageress sidles up with her freshly washed and scented body and sez: 'are you enjoying yer breakfast , tutsi?' and then I don't wanna go into work...)

I could murder some wild Chernoble mushrooms slabbered onto a 1/2 pound JKV burger . Don't get me started on the availability of a good knickerbockerglorry in the up country dry season .

Lemon curd, Tate & Lyle's Golden syrup, fish cakes and fish fingers that don't cost an arm and a leg, (there's a joke in there somewhere !), Fisherman's Pies, Ainsley Harriott Shropshire pea cup-a-soup,

Proper pot noodles, like wot they sell in the UK.

Waitrose Lemon curd found in Tops below Central Ladprao a few months ago. I bought the last 5 jars though....

Mine is Donner meat on chips (proper chip shop chips) with proper kebab shop chilli sauce, mint sauce, and a sprinkle of garden on the top. I even spent a month once perfecting my own donner elephant leg and had a party I was missing it so much.

ick...domino's pizza? worst crap I ever tasted...any mom and pop place in the US can do it miles better so long as they deliver...

I useta work fer PizzaMan in Pasadena in 1969 and they did a healthy business; nice thin crust (freshly made) pizza with any topping you like...with late night delivery and nekkid people at the door with the cash...one of the delivery guys got a blow job in lieu of payment but was glad to make up the difference outta his pocket...

and what's the big deal with jambalaya? it's just some shrimp, rice and cayenne pepper that you could make yerself in Timbuktu...

Its a shrimp or crawdad dish cooked wih butter, a dash of sherry, and made into a seafood based gravy. I've got mixes for it from the states and can make my own as I have almost as many spiceses as the Villa has!

I would love some all beef hotdogs, Hot Italian sausage sanwiches, perogies, Yes Taco Bell, and Chic Fillet, snow crab clusters, fresh Mahi Mahi, Stauffers frozen lasagna, Tostinos Pizza rolls, Butter Pecan Ice Cream, Lima and navy beas in a can, American style pepperoni, like Hormel, good beef summer sausage, dipping mustard, Hot potato chips that don't taste like squid ir shrimp, black angus beef, wisconson style cheese curds, this is just a start, I spend 5-6000 THB every other week at the Villa just on snacks and american drinks! I like what I like!!

mmm...butter pecan ice cream, there was an ice cream place in north Berkeley that specialised in butter pecan and they did a roaring trade; folks lined up outside to get a butter pecan cone...

and here is tutsi between mouthfuls of butter pecan: 'that Fellini we just saw was derivative and he's obviously lost his touch...' and then a mate sez: 'yer fulla <deleted>, tutsi...put down that ice cream and lets get some liquor and have a meaningful discussion...'
