Should have a private password protected hidden website for farangs with retired people willing to give airport taxi rides for cheap price.. let's say gas both way is 200baht then they offer it for 400-500b and all profit goes to the driver.

Better than hanging around tesco

why only white skinned people? why not all foreigners who dislike being ripped off?

Other countries in the world license taxis and then the taxis have to abide by the rules. If a taxi driver doesn't then he looses his license. Why can't Thailand implement and police laws? Because society is so corrupt? The taxi mafia make up the rules and then agree them with the local government? Only in Thailand!

You have to keep in mind the chant that every Thai school kids have to repeat every day. After a few years of saying this over and over again it's easier to understand why they see farangs as some kind of cows to be milked -

Thai people are special, Thailand is special, we are special people.

Thai people are very fortunate to have a xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx are the greatest xxxxx couple in the whole wide world.

We, the Thai people, are the greatest in the world also.

In our water, there are abundancy of fish and in our field, there are golden rice paddies.

There is no other country on this earth that can compare with our beloved Thailand.

We love our xxxxxxxxxxxxx we love our Country and we love our religion.

Incredible. 400 baht to go over the hill to Kamala Beach from Patong. Hell, you can get to the airport from Pattaya for 800 and that's 100Km!! As others have said in this thread, this new system is idiotic.

1. It is stupidly overpriced, no doubt to get the taxi driving Rhode's Scholars to comply

2. The main problem with confrontation, in particular in Patong, have been the Tuk Tuks, black taxis and all those sort who I doubt will have the friendly-fare stickers all over their tuk tuks.

There's too many far corrupt politicians with their snouts in the trough for this to ever change, probably all the way up to Bangkok.

I used to be a Phuket regular in the old days but you can shove it up your arse now for all I care.

Worse than Pattaya these days.

what the heck, today again i saw 5 taxis with white plates and the new sticker. One Green plated with no sticker?

Yes, I think they are complying with the rules, already have the sticker but are waiting for the plates.

Green plates are I think mostly not part of the 'cartels', so I think these rules regarding names don't apply to them.

I did see quite a few tuktuks without names though don't they have to have the name on the side?

I've literally seen over 100 black plate "taxis" with their name on them and not one green plate. What's the status of insurance on the green plate vs. black plate for tourists that get in these vehicles and are involved in an accident? Full coverage, no coverage, 50K baht max coverage, or is it "up to what the driver opted for"?

i saw a 15 year old mitsu lancer dropped down to the floor, cyan color with a bunch of taped spoilers with the new taxi sticker and white plates. Everybody and their mothers are getting it?

I guess anyone on the electoral role gets in on it as long as they vote for the guy who runs the scheme.

Taxi meter, the only honest and universally recognized taxi service, cannot pick up tourists around karon hills. What a bunch of scumbags.

They wouldn't even have to use the meter. Negotiation needed, the meter is only 'from the airport', not to or elsewhere.

And withn the black taxis, now with names and sticker. They running out on license plates, do they?

And of course hand over a monthly envelope to be in the "co op" or "association".

It seems pretty easy to get registered. The only criteria seem to be that the person registering the vehicle needs to be the car owner, a Phuket resident with name on a Phuket tabien baan and possess an ID card issued in Phuket. I would guess the local tessabaan offices have been quite busy!

I had thought that a financed vehicle was not eligible but this doesn't appear to be the case now.

Not sure about the green plates or any 'dues' to local co-operatives.

I'm seeing more and more stickers every day.

And the a-greed fair prices have to raise, again, and again, and again.

It started with ~ 1000 legal 'taxis, plus lots of blacks

It became ~2000 legals (yellow and green plates) , plus 5-10k black taxis

Now there are 5k more 'legal' taxis but still the 'taxi' driver, from 'outside Phuket'. They can't register. Plus ~ 5k 'old ' black taxis.

New ones are following, soon

And the winner is: Toyota, Nissan,Honda, .....!

My guess, next year, the a-greed fairs around 200 baht higher. Only because the 'legal' taxi driver can't drive/earn enough. But they can't proceed against the 'rest of the blacks'. This drivers need a piece of the cake, too. B/c have to pay the ' in line' fees and are family.

One reason, why no BiB can ever spot a illegal taxi. All hidden 'in line' with the legals!

I agree. I can only see the fares rise again as each driver is getting a thinner wedge of the pie and the belief that farang have endless money.

Then, we will be pretty close to your domestic flight to Phuket being cheaper than a taxi from the airport to your hotel, which, I'm sure, many tourist will take note of.

The single tourist will, indeed.

Budget split in 2:

50% for Flight, Hotel, Escort

50% for Taxis to/from Airport, plus the 1km ride to/back from Bangla!
