Thailand Expats Versus Expats Elsewhere

Some of those "undesirables" in t-shirt and flip flops who work in "online gambling" (or porn) might make 50 times what you make, without having to worry about "ruining their career" by saying the wrong thing to their boss. Just saying.

I knew a lady who made $5 a minute. That's a lot of cash and she didn't even wear a t-shirt or flip flops.

did she still make the laundry by hand coffee1.gif ?

No, I did the laundry. smile.png Actually I kind of like doing the laundry. I just bought a new Pansonic washing machine. More buttons than my first airplane. biggrin.png

I`ve seen your other threads and posts, and I think you now hold the record of being the most obscene poster in the whole history of Thai visa.

I was actually giving the OP the benefit of the doubt for a while, but based on this thread and his other one, one can only conclude that Mr Troll has come out to play, or at the very least the OP has an attitude problem, and if this is how he really is in real life one suspects his international expat career will be very short

Nice to see - for once - a thread where expats bash expats and not Thai's...

but I must say I truly admire the op... has talked with one man in one street in one city and had a quick look in few bars in that one street in that one city... and came to the clear and unambiguous and non-disputable conclusion that all expats in Thailand are undesirable scumbags...

WOW! Op must make lot of money with fortune-telling....

The OP is either blessed with accute powers of observation or cursed with a severe case of judgementall prejudice.

On the basis of the evidence pesented by expats in Thailand it is impossible to discern if the OP has been blessed or cursed.

From what I've seen so far, the expat community here in BBK is very different to those in Sing and KL.

A quick look inside the pubs/bars dotted along Sukhumwit crystalizes this assertion.

The crem de la crem is of course in Pattaya a must see for all new expats. A short taxi ride.

The social misfits are hidden up in villages and in the hills up north. These are the type of folk one needs to be very wary off.

Issan people and the expats that settle there are the salt of the earth. You can have the tourist areas and BKK. I want the country, the real Thailand.

Dr Who should get in his tardis and head for the dark side-Pattaya at night. Then report back his moral findings on a % of the expat community.

Funny how the OP should start his journey in lower sukhimvit.

Bangkok is a massive city with a varied assortment of foriegners, the same as any other international city.

I still can't figure out how DrWho's managing to file any of his reports at all. He seems to be on a different planet.

What's up with the negative comments about Issan people and the foreigners that live there? Not to get all heavy, but my thai aquaintances from issan have always been polite and sincere with me, whereas, my alleged friends from the south and Bangkok are the ones that have been manipulative and engaged in the antics that make the pages of TVF threads where a foreigner claims a Thai "done me wrong".

Issan people might be simple at times, but anything I have ever done or gift I have given has earned me a thank you and a genuine smile, which is so unlike my usual experience of how much did you pay, or not good enough from non -Issan people. Most of the foreigners posting in TVF that live in Issan, might be a little rough around the edges, do come off as decent honourable folks. I write this as an elitist that has rarely visited other parts of Thailand and has to date stuck close to over priced, phoney Phuket. I might be detached at times from the daily grind of TVFers and their Thai circle, but I can recognize admirable character traits.

There maybe some validity in what the OP is saying, lets face it Thailand has large numbers of foreign retiree's, hanger's on and wannbee's where as places like Singapore dont, the vast majority of expats in Singapore, HK etc are working there with reputable companies, therefore there would be a tendancy for there to be more undesirables in Thailand just based on numbers.

Based on my own observations of 10 years here and in comparision with other countries I have lived, worked in, Thailand does seem to have a lot more "damaged" , bitter, resentful, chip on their shoulder type expats floating around than I have seen on other places

2 minutes on the ThaiVisa forums makes that abundantly clear. I've never heard so much complaining, bitterness, criticism in my life. It seems that Thai many "expats" don't really like the LoS and are stuck here due to financial circumstances, inability to find mates in their own country, etc. The young professional expats in Bangkok, however, seem emotionally well adjusted and happy.

Perhaps living here too long turns everyone into a bitter cynic. Either that or these are just emotionally damaged people to begin with.

Having lived in a few places around the world, what most pisses me off about Thailand is the 'Oi Oi Savaloy' contingent from every nasty armpit of the UK. Same happened to Goa and the same is happening to Cambodia. These people need to die; that is a fact.

Have been thinking about that myself.

Waiting for the 1st real earth quake in BKK and we will see what the cement really consist of in many of the taller buildings.

Enough of that, lets get back on track and talk about each other.

The cement, concrete actually, is just fine, the holes where the rebar should be will absorb any shock waves thus the buildings will remain intact.

Today I had lunch with a colleague and we were talking about the difference between young expat in our different offices in Asia. Our conclusion was that the quality of the young expats depends on the attractiveness of the country on a professional and personal level. The more the city is considered fun and "in", the worst the expats. You don't decide to work in Hong Kong, Tokyo or Seoul for the quality of life but for the professional opportunities, so there expat are generally more aggressive and carrier oriented. People who moved to Bangkok are usually more attracted by the life style than their career development. China is a mixed bag, you have the best and the worst due to the fact that China offers a lot of professional opportunities but is also "in" and therefore attract a crowd who are there just for the fun to be there, not exactly the people you want to invest in.

How true. I went there last week. Surely, Pattaya has to be the worst place in the world.

How or why does the Thai Government allow this place to exist? It's an abomination.

Reason is, -Money-?

You opened now 3 threads with similarities. I would conclude, you in the wrong country.

The Vatican would fit you better, I presume! tongue.png

Give up your job to people who like it here and not hate it here. That would be fair.

Move to a country with more -virtue-.wink.png

Many of my colleagues are based in HK, KL, Seoul, Tokyo, Sing, and Macao. The general consensus is that the man who has been transferred to BKK is the man who has drawn the short straw.

My contract is only for 6 months. After this, I'm back to Sing.

Thailand will not cry for you. Nor will I.wink.png

I prefer people who see an appointment in Bangkok the other way around, than you and your snob friends.tongue.png

I would not like to change to one of the cities you mentioned, knowing, KL and Singapore well.

This is very similar to what out HR guy said. He said there is a place up in the north called Chang My and there are islands in the south that should be avoided.

Reasons: expats doings -- drugs; smuggling; online porn businesses; online gambling businesses; prostitution; and (sometimes) worse.

Really? blink.png You are an eye opener! In what kind of country I come since 1990 and live in since 1998,shock1.gif

By the way, the -HR-, is that the "HOLY RULER"?whistling.gif

My wife and I have a Thai chauffeur. We are quite certain that he has been told where he can and can't take us. He won't take us to that market place PATPONG. We think it's because there are too many scams there.

Are you a Baby, sounds childish to me. Not the first statement in that way!giggle.gif I thought you are big fishtongue.png in the pond?

If the OP thinks expats living in Thailand are bad, he should meet some of the inbreds currently residing in Laos.

A large majority of them couldn't even hack it in Thailand so reverted to Laos, this really is the end of the line for expats. blink.png

I thought the end of the line is Cambodia, also nearer from BKK and Pattaya.rolleyes.gif

Dear DrWho, Even though your question is not stupid at allguitar.gif

Expecting decent answers from a gathering of scummy people.... is not brilliant whistling.gif

The response made in post number 83 exemplifies your point admirably. The guy wrote:

Regarding your last sentence, she told me while naked, that she does this out of pity for you. wink.png Your are right though, she is pretty sexy.

But most people who've replied come across as very decent.

At least they are more entertaining the posts you dislike, compared to yours!

The -guy- has a name, -bkkjames- with 14500 postings. Who learned you manners? Nobody, I presume.sad.png
