Deet Did Not Kill Canadian Sisters Audrey And Noemi Belanger: Krabi

Recommended Posts

I hope the Canadian authorities can provide answers that those in Thailand could not. The fact that there is some progress will hopefully be providing some comfort to the families of the deceased during a time of unimaginable pain.

The case seems to be closed for the Canadian authorities with these answers they have given (from the OP):

...Canadian Pathologists have confirmed, in a coroner’s report, that the levels of Deet, a pesticide,, found in the bodies of two dead sisters was NOT the cause of their death...
Secondary autopsies were conducted in Montreal, but the results haven’t been released.

My understanding of the last paragraph above is that whilst they have not yet released their findings, they will in the future. There would seem no logical reason not to, Canada isn't Thailand after all.

It never been the case that the parents asked the authority not to talk about the reasons of the death... You should ask somebody to translate this article from radio-Canada...

http://m.radio-canad...fermeture.shtml

The article dated 3 October 2012 on http://m.radio-canada.ca quotes from a story in Phuket Gazette without giving its date or a link to it. From the context of the article of m.radio-canada it is clear that it was written before details from the coroner's report appeared in the press.

...

"The Canadian embassy and the victims' family have asked us not to reveal anything about this case", said Lieutenant Colonel Jongrak Pimthong to the Phuket Gazette.

...

Mr. Belanger continues to believe that the Thai police did not do their job. Furthermore, he denies having asked the Thai authorities about the investigation, nor did he ask to stop the search for a person said to have been seen with his daughters on the evening of the tragedy. However, Carl Belanger has refused to comment further on this case until the coroner Renee Roussel submits the report on the death of his two daughters. A second autopsy will in fact be carried out on human tissue in Montreal. This examination could shed more light on the theory of an accidental poisoning. But it will take months until the submission of the final report of coroner Renee Roussel, who is in charge of this case.

...

If this reporter for m.radio-canada got it right, the case is not yet closed on the Canadian side, after all.

If you go to a 3rd world country on holiday and something tragic like this happens I am sure the victim’s family know that no honest results establishing the cause of death will ever come from any 3rd world country which is endemic with corruption and bribe taking, all a very sad state of affairs for the parents and family.

I don't know... but, only the two of them died accidentally for ingesting something in a bar full of people?... sounds fishy...

If it had been only one... but can two people out of many in the places they visited be called an accident?...

Sorry this does only bad on Thailand for those who don't know the whole story. THE PARENTS REQUESTED THE AUTOPCY REPORTS NOT TO BE RELEASED. The Thai police honoured the request by the parents and added that if the family or embassy want to release further info they can. Untill now they haven't released any further info. The ones who are hiding info is the parents and everyone must just let it go. Let the parents grieve their childrens deaths with their image/reputation intact. Why do everyone want to know the truth if the truth will only hurt the family more? Why are people dishonouring the wishes of the family by snooping around and seek publicity? The parents have lost that was most dear to them and the only thing they have left are the memories of their children, why do people want to destroy this?

Surely their parents want to hide something and want the world

to see the deceased as just plain globe trotting kids. They do not

want the truth to be told.

If you read the thread instead of believing anonymous internet posts, you will find that the parents never requested any such thing.

What would make you say such things?

What I do not understand is why the family of the deceased do not wish the report released I can only come to the conclusion that it could well have been self inflicted. It seems we may never know what really happened R.I.P to the sisters

It would be nice to know what substance it was that caused the death, just to know what poison to stay clear of.

I think you'd find it wise to clear of ALL poisons... the word, 'poison', is probably a clue .... whistling.gif

The DEET theory never really made much sense anyway and I'm glad it's off the table.

I hope that the Canadian authorities and the family will eventually reveal the real reason as found in the reports (I have looked to find recent information that this is not true as the poster above me claimed but have found nothing so far). It would really help ease the worries of future visitors to Thailand to know what reaslly happened here.

I am also happy that DEET has been exonerated.

The mozzies love me more than most and I totally rely on DEET sprays.

From this dreadful tragedy I have learned a lot about DEET and in combination with insecticides and I for one will be much more careful about how much I spray and how often. I will wash it off as soon as possible.

I will also wear clothing to minimise the area of exposed skin and therefore reduce the amount of DEET that needs to be applied. I shall never have DEET applied and then spray insecticide in a room because theat combination increases the toxicity of DEET.

As to the "keen reporters", well the reason is money and greed, one of the seven deadly sins at least.

I feel very sorry for the parents of the poor girls and agree with the posters who ask that TV posters leave them alone. It has been said that the coroners report will eventually become public so let's wait.

This statement is untrue. It emanated from a Thai source, a Thai police spokesman, and is untrue.

It has now been repeated so often everyone believes it but it is untrue.
