An EU-funded Myanmar Peace Center was opened in Rangoon on Saturday at a ceremony attended by visiting European Commission President José Manuel Barroso and President’s Office Minister Aung Min, according to a report by RTT News. The new center will serve as a platform for dialogue between all parties involved in Burma’s peace process, the two sides said. The EU provided almost US $900,000 to open the office, and pledged to provide $38.5 million to the peaces process next year. Barroso also said that the EU is ready to provide $5 million in immediate aid to assist in conflict-hit Arakan State.
