Twenty years ago, I spent 45 minutes getting from Bang Na to Phetchaburi Road by bus. Now, even in a taxi, it can take more than an hour. By train, travelling time is shortened to half an hour. Yes, most Bangkokians see the need for more electric train lines, particularly as new cars keep hitting the road when many old cars are not yet expired. The first batch of 1,600 cameras will be installed in 300 areas where illegal drugs are a problem. Tourists have so far refused to pay, saying tour operators should handle the fees, said park head Panpong Khongdech-adisak. However, tour operators say they weren't informed about the policy. The 30,000 items included copies of products from Nitipon Clinic, Wuttisak Clinic and Yanhee Hospital. The fake products were advertised online via www.bevershop.com and www.sumpang.com, he said. The DSI had warrants to search three houses in Lam Luk Ka and a shop in Don Muang's new market. Payungsak Chartsuthipol, chairman of the Federation of Thai Industries (FTT), said the Japanese private sector has increased their investment in Thailand with some relocating their manufacturing bases to this country in the past few years. Many countries are interested in using Thailand as production centre to supply to Southeast Asian countries, apparently in preparations for the coming ASEAN Economic Community in 2015, he said. Describing Thailand as the hub of Southeast Asia, he said western China with a population of 700 million is easily accessible to Thailand while land transport from Thailand to India, Pakistan and Bangladesh is also feasible. The FTT chairman predicted a favourable economic expansion for Thailand next year with an economic growth at not less than 5 per cent despite an ongoing economic slowdown in Europe and the US. Mr Payungsak said natural disaster, internal political crisis, impact from higher minimum wage and labour shortage are risk factors impeding Thailand’s economic growth. He said 42 industrial categories in the country have been integrated into 11 clusters to boost their efficiency and competitiveness. Some of the clusters are rubber and rubber wood, health products, food, fashion and lifestyle products, he said, adding that each cluster has its road map for concrete development in accord with the 11th National Economic and Social Development Plan (2012-2016). webfact Posted December 18, 2012 Author Share Posted December 18, 2012 NARATHIWAT Buses suspend services following attack on public bus The Nation NARATHIWAT: -- Public passenger vans in Narathiwat's Sungai Kolok district on Tuesday suspended services after insurgents opened fire on a public bus on Monday, killing two officials and injuring many others. The victims were identified as Patimoh Salae, 34 and Naowarat Leenin, 29, both agriculture officials in Sunagai Padi district. Both died on the way to the hospital. As of press time, four of the five passengers injured in the attack had been allowed to return home. The suspended routes were from Narathiwat's Muang district to Sungai Kolok, Joh I Rong and Sungai Padi districts. People in these districts have been badly affected by the suspension, as the public buses provide the major mode of transportation in this border province. Following the ambush, combined forces blanketed the area and searched for the attackers in Joh I Rong and Rangae districts. Initial police investigation quoted witnesses as saying some 12 individuals were involved in the attack. They emerged from behind bushes on the roadside and opened fire with assault rifles at the passenger bus, which was crowded with passengers heading home from work.
