OK. I think I recall that you were not happy to hear reviews of delivery meals. You can correct me if I'm wrong.

I rejected that complaint because food delivered from restaurants is still restaurant food although obviously sometimes degraded by the delivery process.

I don't think you commented on discount codes but yeah I can infer you don't want to hear that either if its about delivery food.

Had a go at the new venture of the Grand Palazzo Hotel(possibly connected with the MIKE group) on Phettrakul, close to Terminal 21; named Gin Gub Go. Their take on a street food pop up.

 

Prepared dishes from which you take a selection with rice. 30 baht for rice with a single topping and 5 baht extra per topping.

 

Then there is a drinks counter and a couple of other things at which I did not look. Toppings weren't particularly generous, but they were tasty without the need for overpowering chilli.

At 35 baht for a dish with two sides; Green curry with chicken and stir fried vegetables with prawns, there was nothing about the food to complain. What I didn't like were the amount of people milling around. Waaay too many 'staff' doing nothing; probably students or family on the cheap, some forgetting to put their masks on when around customers. One sneezing right next to me. Made for an unpleasant eating experience. Was happy to get out of there. Plus there was Press and their friends all around.

Though not likely indicative of eating there in general as today was their first day. So other days perhaps not quite so many people who don't need to be there.

Give it a try if in the vicinity. An alternative to Pier 21, but with the bonus of being able to sit outside in addition to inside in their "Five star" premises. "Five star" were their words; I just quoted them.

My view is the food delivery segment of the market has become so popular and ingrained internationally that it will persist to a large degree even after the pandemic is over. And its not nearly over.

I find the portions fine.... usually  papadums starter, a curry and a nan bread fills me up. With rice would be too much for me. It is a slightly pricey place but I find the quality good.

Why such a rude and patronising post?

 

Real price of things? Such a simplistic statement. Is rent the same everywhere in Thailand?

 

Not every restaurant can survive on such low margins. 

Who do you know who enjoys paying 400 baht for a chicken steak and/or 600 baht for a fish steak? Try to be nice. How many people have you insulted in a single post? Hopefully you can do better the next time.

 

Thank you for the summary of the restaurant itself. I don't eat out much; but cheap cuts of meat and frozen chips aren't high on my list personally. But this isn't a thread featuring gourmet restaurants; rather people just telling about what they have experienced.

So I posed the question in case it was of interest to others.

Don Pepes Spanish restaurant 

Same mall as Patricks, Soi Diana at 2nd

Central Pattaya 

 

This place is more expensive than my usual places but as I love Spanish food, I had to try it.

 

Overall keep in mind that this is a very modern take on Spanish food with a lot of fusion influences obviously led by a talented chef. Personally I wouldn't mind a more traditional approach though.

 

Based on two visits I do love the food as I expected I would. 

 

I mostly focused on tapas. 

 

Some dishes

 

Creamy croquettes with mushrooms 

 

Squid with poached egg in squid ink mayonnaise 

 

Tortilla Espanola 

 

Lamb balls over couscous with pomegranate 

 

Gazpacho

 

Grilled sardines imported from France

 

Basque cheesecake

 

Tastes will vary but my favorite of those tapas by far was the squid with black ink. My least favorite was the tortilla Espanola because I craved a traditional version and it wasn't and I just didn't like what it was. The lamb balls are a popular item there but I was underwhelmed. They have two kinds of croquettes. My choice was very good. The sardines are technically a main dish but they are very small and didn't hold up to my last experience of grilled fresh sardines in Lisbon but that was too much to hope for.

 

The Basque cheesecake was the best cheesecake I remember having in my life. The only dessert I've had in months so I don’t feel guilty. Worth the calories and worth the 200 baht price. 

 

If I was wealthy I would eat there often but paella at 800 baht even though I'm sure its great is out of my regular budget.

To be clear, the one on Sukhumvit doesn't look like exactly like that, even though as you say, it's the same franchise. They have a covered unit as well as outside apace on Sukhumvit.

I just didn't see the point of your post at all. It's clear that I know that this thread is about all local restaurants because, that is what I wrote. It's a thread that can include food from all price ranges.

Yes, I think I ordered from there a second time. As it came by delivery I can't be 100 percent sure, can I? Maybe the food came from some other "mystery" restaurant. You're right that just because a place is doing delivery doesn't necessarily mean that they are open. But I'm guessing there is a good chance that they are. 

 

This time I had the hor mok talay and cashew chicken. 

The hor mok talay was excellent. I simply loved it. 

I almost never order cashew chicken but I thought it would be an interesting "test" of this restaurant. 

It was interesting alright. I liked it but the flavor of the sauce didn't seem typical. I think of that dish as being oyster sauce dominant and this seemed to have some kind of dominant red perhaps tomato element. No I don't think the red was from chili. There weren't many cashews but that didn't bother me. The chicken meat was generous and cooked very well. I didn't love it, I didn't hate it. Again I thought the flavoring of the sauce was a bit odd.

Maybe you think I'm being presumptuous. I'm sorry then. As the O.P. of this incredibly long existing thread, I take an active interest in keeping it a place that has some value for its readers and posters.

Yeah, I get it. It's a Chinese origin dish. It's one of the stereotypical dishes that westerners that don't like spicy food order often. But there's nothing wrong with the dish if it's cooked well like pretty much any other dish.

I wanted a beef burger that's all.

 

They list an " Australian beef burger 200gm. 89 baht.

 

I doubt it was Aussie beef at that low price but it was big and it was tasty.

Glass of Coke/Sprite available 29 baht , free refill.

Decent size glass and refill was almost automatic when one of the staff noticed I was finished.

Good service.

 

I was happy and have returned and will return.

Is it possible that the menu was indicating the style of the burger instead of the origin of the meat? Such as having a beetroot on it?
